The McGaha family with their two small children just moved in a little over a week ago to my apartment complex. I showed them their apartment, drafted their paperwork and helped move them in. They were incredibly understanding and gracious throughout all our interactions and expressed sincere gratitude for every small service.
Yesterday the mother of this family stopped by the office to let me know that her husband would need to be taken off the lease. When I asked why, she struggled to explain that the horrific fatal accident on 186th and State St. last Friday night was her husband. The car left the road and hit a tree, causing the car to burst into flames. The accident was likely due to ice and the fire completely burned the vehicle and occupant beyond recognition.
This family is fairly new to Omaha, and find themselves facing unfathomable loss a week before Christmas. I don't know their family situation or much more about what their specific needs are due to a very brief interaction with this young mother yesterday... but I cannot begin to imagine their pain during what should be the most joyful season. If you feel led, please help her with funeral costs or whatever else she may need at this time. Sometimes the kindness of strangers can mean the most.
