Update: We are SO DEEPLY humbled and honored—truly speechless—by the outpouring of support for the Metzlers. Thank you, thank you. The ripples of this incredible community are felt, and we are so very grateful.

Hi, I'm Emma Ruffin, soon to be Emma Ruffin Kuhn—wife of Charlie and married into the Kuhn/Metzler families.

On December 30th—days before the New Year—Susan and Don Metzler, parents to Charlie, Gritz, and Pete, lost their home of 20+ years to the Marshall Fire.

We've since learned that this was Colorado's most destructive fire to date—claiming 1100+ homes and buildings across Louisville, Superior, and Boulder County unincorporated land in a matter of hours. Our community—the community where Charlie and I both live and were lucky enough to have had our house spared—has been irreparably devastated.

Thank you so much to everyone who has reached out in support. Our hearts ache with this community-wide loss that will be felt for years to come.

The Metzlers have called this slice of Louisville home for over two decades. Don has worked from his home office since day one. Susan works at Silver Creek High School in Longmont as a counselor. They are generous, loving people who's house was filled with their sons' artwork, keepsakes collected across generations, and memories that will live on in heart and mind alone.

We are lucky (unlucky?) enough to have actual footage of their beautiful home being devoured by the Marshall Fire inferno, captured by Channel 9 news:

It is difficult footage to watch, and knowing that it is the house of a family whom I love dearly...there are simply no words.

So many people have reached out wondering how best to support in this time of abrupt and devastating loss—this is one meaningful way you can help our family move forward. Any donations will go to help support Don and Susan in buying essentials, finding a place to rent in the short-term, and building their future. Anything helps, and nothing is expected.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your consideration.
Emma
