Help the Nasrallah's leave Gaza
Since October 7th the situation in the Gaza Strip has continuously deteriorated. Destruction and death is everywhere, and no place is safe for the people of Gaza. They are suffering from hunger and a lack of the basic needs to survive.
Now thousands of people are seeking to leave the Gaza Strip, escaping through Rafah crossing to find safety for their families.
One of these families is the Nasrallah family. In 2003, the Nasrallah's met American peace activist Rachel Corrie. As Kareem, the eldest son, shares, Rachel would often help teach him English. On March 16, 2003 Rachel was killed by the IDF while trying to prevent their home from demolition. Since that time, the Nasrallah family has built connections with many foreigners. Kareem's father, Dr. Sameer, has hosted many foreign nationals, including myself. Dr. Sameer kindly provided foreigners with hospitality, treating them like his own children, making jokes, and helping them navigate daily life in Gaza.
Kareem, who was 13 years old when he met Rachel, is now a father of two daughters. His wife is nearly eight months pregnant with their first baby boy. Kareem works with The Rebuilding Alliance as their local coordinator in Gaza. He also works with The Rachel Corrie Foundation for Peace and Justice to manage the Rachel Corrie Football Tournament which takes place during Ramadan, along with other projects.
Of the many members of the Nasrallah family, sixteen are struggling to get out of war torn Gaza. Dr. Sameer, who suffers from chronic illness, his wife, one their daughters (27), their son (Kareem, 35), Kareem’s pregnant wife, and their two daughters (8 and 5), Dr. Sameer’s brother, Khaled, his wife, and their six children ranging in age from 8-24. One of Khaled’s daughters recently graduated from university first in her class studying multimedia and web development. Just this month she released this beautiful tribute to Rachel. You can view it here (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1My6N9-jRosdGzuIJoCAwk8cHYkkC6Br7/view?usp=sharing) She planned to pursue a masters degree in film-making. Another daughter is a teacher, and a third is studying to work in computer sciences. The war is making their future studies and dreams impossible in Gaza.
Any donations you are able to make will help cover the cost of leaving Gaza, temporary housing, hospital fees for Kareem’s wife, and basic living expenses while in Egypt. Please help in whatever way you are able.
The Nasrallah family holds dear all of the foreigners they have met and hosted over the past 22 years. Now they are asking for help to leave Gaza during this brutal war where food, water, medicine, and all life sustaining supplies have been cut off - all amidst months of bombing and destruction that has killed over 30,000 people and injured over 70,000.
Expected expenses:
Registration fees: $65,000
GFM fees: $5,000
Temporary housing: $2,000
Expenses in Egypt: $1,500
Living Expenses and Education for the children: $10,000
