Help the Nieboer Family get home!

Hi everyone. My name is Toby and I, along with my wife Christina, and my kids Jo and Alex, moved to Colorado from Australia in September 2022. This was something we'd been working towards for years and it's been more amazing than we could have hoped.

Unfortunately, five months ago I lost my job, and my visa along with it. The recruitment industry is extremely challenging right now, and as that's the only industry in which I'm qualified to get another visa, I've been out of work since June. Even though we've kept the rent up to date, through cashing out my 401k and borrowing tens of thousands of dollars from friends and family, our landlord has chosen not to renew our lease and it will expire November 30.

We have no options left but to move back to Australia, but we do not have the money for plane tickets, let alone anything else. If we're not able to fly out at the end of this month, we'll be facing homelessness. We've sought assistance from local organizations but we either don't qualify, or they won't be able to help in time. We also have had to rehome our beloved cats, who we brought with us from Australia but who are prohibitively expensive to take back.

I'm asking for $15k USD in total to cover plane tickets (approximately $8k) and to get us back on our feet when we arrive in Melbourne, as we sold or gave away everything we owned before we left, and we'll need a deposit for our next rental accommodation. If we somehow manage to raise over $15k, the excess will go towards repaying the friends and family who have kept a roof over our heads for the past five months.

This is literally our last option and it's not one we've arrived at lightly. It's not in my nature to ask people for help but if you're able to, it would mean so much to me and my family. Thank you so much for reading, and all the best to you and yours.
