Help the Nieves Family Make Their Wish Come True
Hi everyone! I’m sure most of you are familiar with the Nieves family, their five beautiful children, and strong and resilient parents, Kristyn and Erick. You may also be aware of a Christiana’s extraordinary battle with congenital heart disease and all of its complications and side effects. These complications have only increased the family’s isolation during COVID. The family needs help to purchase a camper trailer (large enough for the big family) so that they may take their kids on safe trips and experience the joy of life to help balance life’s challenges. This family is part of our Malverne community, and I can’t think of anyone more deserving of charity. Please join me (and our community) in helping this amazing family to be able to spend time together safely. Please read on to learn a little more about this amazing story of love and resilience.
A little more about the Nieves’s: their oldest, Laura, is 12, Autumn is 9, and the triplets Arielle, Hannah, and Christiana are 7. Yes, identical triplet girls. Completely natural and shocking! They were also shocked when they found out about Christiana's severe heart defect in utero. She has Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome, essentially the right side never developed so she functions with a single ventricle. Arielle was in the NICU for 51 days, Hannah was in the NICU for 83 days, and is deaf in her right ear, and Christiana was in the NICU for 220 days. However, between Christiana's 17 procedures, including 5 open heart surgeries, and other serious hospitalizations for various illnesses, including Sepsis in 2018 when they almost lost her, she has been in the hospital for a combined time of over a year.
Your help would add around $10,000 to their budget to get the right fit for a large family trailer - which is just not possible for them at this time. Any little bit would help them out tremendously. Erick is an MTA officer and Kristyn worked as an elementary teacher in the city for 15 years and then was a teacher assistant. However, last year she had to resign due to the pandemic and other family issues which has led to her to homeschool her oldest.
Kristyn and Erick believe that a travel trailer would be the best thing for their family and that they will enjoy it for years to come. They plan on going to many places, including Disney, eventually. One place Christiana wants to visit is the Rocky statue in Philly. She loves Rocky Balboa and when she can come off of her feeding tube, she wants to run up the steps and jump around the statue. She is such a fighter and the friendliest, spunkiest little 7-year-old and we are so thankful she is still loving life!
