Help the Nisbet Family

Hello there, I'm Jennifer Hammell and I'm fundraising for the Nisbet family. I've known Jessica Nisbet for over twenty-five years now. She is one of the most caring and selfless people that I'm blessed to know. Jess is my dearest and closest friend, more like a sister. Family by choice, not by blood; that's pretty special to me. She's been married to Derek Nisbet for thirteen years, but they have been together for twenty years. They're a family of four as they have two wonderful children who are at that fun teenage phase of life. As a father, he is loving and provides for his family as a hard working construction worker.

On December 18th, 2021; Derek was rushed to the er after an injury that led to an emergency surgery the following day. The bottom of his leg bone had broken in three places and had torn a ligament. He now has a plate, many screws and currently what they call a fracture blister. You can imagine the immense amount of pain that he has been and is still in at this time. His wife and children are having a difficult time navigating through seeing him in such pain. Three weeks later, he followed up with his doctor and was able to have thirty-six staples removed. The doctor is saying that he can possibly return to work in another four weeks on light duty, but will not be up on a ladder for at least four more months. As a construction worker, light duty isn't much of an option. Derek isn't the type of guy who just wants to sit around as he takes pride in his work. When he returns in four weeks to follow up the doctor will determine if physical therapy is needed or not. That will obviously depend upon how his healing continues to go.

With this happening so close to Christmas its been a struggle financially to remain caught up. Their main concerns at this time are food, utilities, co-payments and medical expense. Insurance is covering some, but not putting a dent in the amounts.
