Help the OKC Rattlesnake and Venom Museum
Donation protected
The OKC Rattlesnake and Venom Museum is asking for help to support our animals during the 2020 COVID-19 crisis.
As an entirely donations-based museum, we have always operated on a tight budget. All of our donations have gone towards keeping our animals fed, renting our museum space, and keeping the lights and heat on. Saving for a rainy-day fund just isn’t an option on a budget as tight as ours.
The museum has experienced a rapid drop in visits since March due to the current COVID-19 situation. No visits means no donations, and no donations means no new funds with which to feed our snakes. We’ve estimated that in one year, it costs us $2600 in mice, $700 in rats, and $300 in rabbits just to feed the snakes we have on exhibit.
We are aiming for a minimum $1000 to cover food expenses for our critters for a 3-4 month period. We continue to hope that things will return to normal by May or June, when we would typically expect visitor donations to keep us afloat. The more we raise now, the better and longer we are able to weather this storm.
We are incredibly grateful to all of our visitors and supporters, past and future, and to all of the followers of our Facebook page. Each like, share, and comment we receive tells us we are on the right track - that we are meeting our goal of providing education and entertainment for all of you, while also providing a safe space for these animals to live out the rest of their lives in peace.
We know most of you are doing your part to keep the virus from spreading, or are essential workers helping to keep the rest of us fed, healthy, and informed, and for that we are grateful, too. We will continue to make (what we hope are) entertaining and educational posts until you are able to visit again. In the meantime, we appreciate any help you can send our way.
Our love and thanks to you all,
The OKC Rattlesnake and Venom Museum Team
