With heavy hearts, I share the overwhelming loss my family, the Peeters, has endured. The recent disaster, consumed our beloved family home, leaving nothing but ashes where decades of love and memories once stood. It is devastating beyond words, and I’m reaching out to our community to help my grandparents in their time of need.

Margaret and Joseph Peeters, my dear grandparents, have always been known for their compassion and strength. Margaret dedicated her career to caring for others as a nurse at Huntington Memorial Hospital, while Joseph, a retired auto mechanic who ran a small local shop, was famous for his generosity—fixing cars for neighbors in need, often without asking for payment. They are the heart of our family and have touched the lives of so many around them.

This tragedy has come at a particularly difficult time. Just last month, grandpa underwent heart surgery, and while he was still recovering, the fire destroyed his medical equipment and medications. Now, in addition to their health challenges, they are faced with the heartbreaking task of starting over at a time when they should be enjoying peace and stability.

As their grandson, I live far from home, attending university, and it has been incredibly painful to be so far away while my family faces this crisis. The worry and helplessness I feel are difficult to put into words, but I’m determined to do everything I can to support them, even from a distance.

Temporary housing and basic living necessities to provide safety and comfort.

Replacement of medical supplies and critical equipment for grandpa's recovery.

Support to begin the long and painful process of rebuilding their home.
