Help the People in Tigray

There is currently a humanitarian crisis occurring in Tigray, the northern region of Ethiopia.  Since November 2020, there has been a civil war occurring in Ethiopia, involving electricity blackouts, communication blackouts, bank shutdowns, and water shortages implemented by the Ethiopian government. Families abroad have not been able to contact relatives in some areas of Tigray for months now to check that they are even alive. Along with these blockages, the federal government has been blocking humanitarian aid from the UNHCR, further worsening the conditions of the people suffering.

Military occupation of the region has lead to the displacement of more than 56,000 refugees from Tigray to Sudan, according to the UNHCR. Ethiopian and Eritrean soldiers brought in by the federal government have been raping women and killing innocent people of all ages, from children to the elderly.  4.5 million people out Tigray's population of 6 million are expected to die from starvation.

My family back in Tigray has described the horrors going on there, and it is truly heartbreaking to hear coming from my own sister's mouth. For my birthday this April 23, my ideal birthday gift would be a donation to this cause. 100% of funds donated will go directly to displaced refugee relief in Tigray, helping out specifically with medication, food, and shelter.
