Help the Petrie family on their road to recovery
Donation protected
On Monday February 1 Trish Petrie suffered an extremely rare and unexpected cardiac event. Currently she is in the Ottawa Heart Institute, on life support, and facing the battle of her life. Already surviving three heart surgeries, she continues to fight. However, her medical future is currently unknown. Permanent mechanical implant devices or even a full heart transplant are still being considered.
Medically speaking, Trish suffered a Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD). This is a sudden condition that primarily afflicts healthy women between the ages of 30 and 50. It occurs when a tear forms in the blood vessels in the heart.
Her husband Scott has been one of our very best friends for over 20 years. He and Trish are true partners in life and have two healthy vibrant children - Sam (age 10) and Katie (age 6). Their family has dealt with a lot of adversity in recent years. For almost 20 years Scott worked for the City of Ottawa, but for past three years has been working away from home (Monday-Friday). In order to maintain "normalcy" for the family, he has been commuting between the family’s home in Carleton Place (near Ottawa) and the City of Vaughn (near Toronto). Just a few weeks ago however, Scott lost his job in a “corporate restructuring”. Now faced with being the primary caregiver for Trish’s lengthy and complicated recovery, Scott will be unable to work while still incurring the costs of running a household as well as costly fuel, parking and food expenses to be by Trish’s side in the hospital.
In the long term, they both face uncertain work futures. They may need to make modifications to their home to support Trish’s movement restrictions as well as transportation needs. Also, with an inability to work, their children's future education needs and supports are facing uncertainty.
Many people have reached out, offering support and asking for ways in which they can support this wonderful family. This is an opportunity to do so with a monetary donation. All funds raised will go directly to the Petrie family.
Scott and Trish are private and independent people. They would never seek unnecessary charity - but as friends of the family we firmly believe they need our help now! Their family faces a long and difficult road ahead. They have so many things to be concerned about - our desire is for money to be the least among them..
