Gary has been a police officer for over 20 years. During his career he worked for Blanco Police Department. He retired from Blanco PD as the Assistant Chief. He worked for the Judson ISD Police department, which he left to find work closer to home. Gary's wife, Larissa suffers from Lupus, RA, as well as other illnesses; He wanted to be closer to home to be able to take care of his wife. Shortly after leaving Judson ISD, while Larissa was in the hospital recovering from complications due to surgery, Gary was admitted to his first of many hospital stays. He has Crohn's disease. During his hospital stays, he has been diagnosed with several other illnesses. During the beginning of his hospital stays, Gary and Larissa decided it was best to withdraw his Teacher Retirement to help with finances during his stay. However the hospital visits became more frequent and more lengthy. This of course has left him not able to return to work. He drew out his retirement, which provided money to live on for a short time. After depleting his retirement and moving on to their savings, they have exceeded all that money. he had surgery that was supposed to help one of the issues and would hopefully allow him to go back to work. They lost their cobra insurance and were running out of money. During one of his 7 stays this year, He had sepsis after a week, developed pneumonia (the second time within a couple of months), and went into respiratory distress. He was on life support for 6 days and in the hospital for 27 days. During his next stay in the hospital a couple of weeks later the doctor found that his body is not staying hydrated enough. Even though he drinks tons of water, his body is not holding on to it. At a follow up appointment with one of his Doctors after another stay, the Doctor found a medication that was going to fix one of his diagnosis that will make him feel better by helping his body absorb the liquids and nutrients to keep him hydrated. The cost of the medication is $38,000.00 a month. He was blessed from the Rare Disease Organization by having the medication fully funded. While waiting on the paper work and all he returned to the same Dr two weeks later weighing 38lbs less. The Dr admitted him immediately into the hospital for yet another stay and placed him on IV TPN. He was discharged with a Picc Line and Larissa will administer the TPN daily with home health coming to the house twice a week to take blood for lab work and check his IV site. The TPN will have to be paid out of pocket while they still wait on his disability and Medicaid to be approved. It has been said that it could cost 5 to 6000.00 a month just for the medication. He is currently on 12 other prescriptions some which are very pricey and the manufacturer does not offer any assistance; He will also have follow up appointments with a few specialist. With no insurance and him not being able to return to work for a while, medical expenses are adding up, not to mention, household bills. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated until they can figure out what the next plan is and he can return to work.
As of July 5th the outsource who has been paying for the TPN will comes to an end. Home Health is no longer providing care which leaves dressing changes and IV monitoring to his wife and blood draws will be done through the hospital. A decision on disability still has not been made and in fact has a medical hold on it. He desperately needs to remain on TPN as this is keeping him out of the hospital and able to remain home. We beg for any help you can offer.
We appreciate everyone who has helped thus far. It means a lot.
Please keep us in your prayers, as you know some of them have already been answered. God is good!
