Support the Poirier Family in Time of Need

My brother, Brandon, and sister-in-law, Jen, are facing an unimaginable challenge. My 14-year-old nephew, Lukas (who is autistic) has been battling significant mental health issues off and on for a few years now. The situation has gotten more dire the past several months, which has taken a significant emotional toll on their family but has also placed a tremendous financial burden on them.

Lukas has been in and out of multiple treatment facilities, emergency rooms, and has seen a plethora of doctors in general --- unfortunately none of which have been successful with establishing a long-term treatment that has greatly improved his condition. Often, the location has been a long distance from where they live, including his current hospitalization at the University of Michigan – Mott, which he’s been at for about a week. The hope is that his current doctors can make a world of difference for his quality of life and lessen the stress for their family overall.

My brother (who is self-employed) has taken on the responsibility of keeping a constant eye on Lukas day and night to ensure his safety, which has made it extremely difficult for him to keep up with his lawn mowing responsibilities or get the rest that he so desperately needs. Due to this constant supervision, Brandon has sacrificed his income heavily and their bills have become overwhelming to say the very least. Jen works a crazy, early shift for the city of Howell and has a lot of pride in what she does. Her job helps provide the much-needed healthcare for Lukas and the rest of their family.

Your support will not only ease the financial burden on Brandon and Jen but will also send a powerful message that they are not alone in this struggle. They did not ask me to create this GoFundMe, I basically insisted since they are amazing human beings who are fighting the good fight, each and every day, but desperately need help at this time.

Lukas is an insanely intelligent, sweet boy who has been through so much and I have faith that he will get better.

Your generous donation will be used for the following purposes:

1. Medical/Therapy Expenses: Lukas requires specialized care, therapy, and medication to address his mental health challenges --- a high percentage not covered by insurance

2. Day-to-Day Expenses: As Brandon is barely able to work due to Lukas’ current condition, your donations will help cover their day-to-day living expenses (i.e. gas, groceries, pet food, etc.)

3. Outstanding Bills: Becoming current will allow Brandon and Jen to focus more on Lukas
