Help the Poole family kick cancers ass!

My name is Erin Diehl. I am starting this fundraiser for my partner (at work), Jared Poole and his family. We have been friends and partners for over ten years, and he has the biggest heart and would give his shirt off his own back to help anyone. He has been there for me in work and my own life. His wife, Gen Poole, has been having health issues for a while, and finally, the Poole family knows what it is fighting. Gen and Jared are two of my favorite people. They are raising two children, and Jared is the only one working. This is why I am starting this fundraiser.

Here is Gen's story: In October 2021, after months of ER visits and a lengthy hospital stay, Gen was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer called chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML). CMML only occurs in 4 of every million people in the US each year and almost 9 out of 10 cases are diagnosed in people 60 and older. Doctors have no idea what caused Gen to develop this cancer.

Gen was referred to the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Utah for treatment direction. Doctors revealed that that her disease was considered high risk to develop acute myeloid leukemia (AML). She began daily and monthly chemotherapy to slow the growth of the cancer until a bone marrow donor could be found so that she could undergo a lifesaving bone marrow transplant to hopefully cure the cancer. The good news is that her brother, Justin, was found to be a 10/10 match and will be her donor!

Both Gen and Justin will have to travel to Utah for the transplant. The transplant process will require Gen to stay isolated in the hospital for several weeks and then remain in Utah for at least 100 days after transplant. During this time, she will require 24/7 care and weekly doctor appointments. The plan is to have out of state family members stay with her family in Utah to help with the children, however, her mom’s breast cancer has returned and we are unsure how often they will be able to help.

In December 2021, Gen realized that she could no longer continue working due to the toll that the cancer was taking on her. Which left her husband, Jared, the sole provider for a family of four. The funds raised here will help the Poole family rent a home in Utah so that Gen and Jared can be reunited with their 2 young children as soon as she is discharged from the hospital. They will also help with medical expenses, basic living expenses, and child care as they navigate her year-long recovery.
