Help the Purington Family
Donation protected
The Purington family is a hard-working, caring family who always helps others in need. Right now, they could use some help. Bill and Rhonda’s daughter, Kaitlyn, a junior at Detroit Lakes High School, suddenly developed weakness in her legs the morning of 10/17/18. By that night, she could not walk; and, she had lost sensation from her waist down. She was brought to the local ER; but, was quickly transferred to Fargo for further testing and a higher level of care. After lengthy MRI tests and testing of her cerebral spinal fluid (spinal tap), she was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis, a neurological disorder where there is inflammation on both sides of one section of the spinal cord. By The next morning (10/18), Kaitlyn’s condition had deteriorated; she had no movement of her legs; and, she could not sit up by herself.
For treatment, Kaitlyn started receiving IV steroids. Thankfully, by Friday morning (10/20), she started to get some movement back in her left leg. With intensive physical therapy, Kaitlyn is now able to walk with a walker. However, before she can return home, she will have another 1-2 weeks of acute inpatient therapy. Both Rhonda and Bill have had to take time off of work; but, as we all know, expenses and bills do not take time off. So, to continue to make ends meet, Rhonda had no choice but to return to work. Rhonda is a self-employed Day Care provider; so, she does not have the benefit of “paid time off.” Rhonda would very much like to be spending time with her daughter, Kaitlyn, through her recovery. Usually, Transverse Myelitis is not permanent; but, it can take several weeks to recover.
Bill and Rhonda have always been the ones who are first to help their family and friends in any time of need! Now, they are in need and could use some financial support.
It would be greatly appreciated if you could support the Purington family by making a donation and by sharing their story.
Kaitlyn is working hard every day to regain her strength. She is very much looking forward to being a “normal” teen again.
Thank you very much for your generosity!
