Help the Werood Family Overcome Crisis
Donation protected
Meet the family of Werood Rami from Gaza. They are in need of support during this incredibly difficult time. Their home has been destroyed by heavy air strikes. There is no work and the little food that is available is very expensive.
Update sent out Dec 12th 2024:
It has been over a year since Werood and her family have been displaced. Today Werood shared with me her full account of what she has experienced since the beginning of the war and what she hopes for.
"We lived like any family. I work as an English teacher. My husband is a physical education teacher and we have a beautiful baby. We are still at the beginning of our married life. We still
hope to build a beautiful home one day. Life has been like a dream that changed our lives. We hear nothing but bombing, destruction and death around us. We were very patient, but the fear increased even more. We lived in northern Gaza, specifically next to Kamal Adwan Hospital. Of course, the hospital is now known to everyone because of the aggressive actions there.
We decided to move to Rafah to preserve the safety of our child because of the lack of milk and food there. We became homeless. The house was demolished and the memories destroyed. We lived in Rafah in a hall inside a university. I remember the difficult days there, where there was no privacy. We were seven families in the same hall. At the end of the corridor there is a bathroom for approximately 100 people, although there is no water.
When the bombing intensified, we went to Nuseirat. We decided to leave and were forced to leave again. We sat with someone closest to us. The house contained ten families. They wait for death because homes are always threatened.
One night, without warning the bombing became violent The fragments reached inside the house We wished the morning would come quickly And when he came We went to Khan Yunis and set up a tent And a ground bathroom The tent is truly not suitable for human living As for the children, the cold is extreme and the heat is intense But we learned patience.
All this displacement for him is the hardest when we cannot find food for our son. Our son is in a growing stage and there is no healthy food or fruits, only canned food is available. But God never forgets us. We find someone who stands by us just like you. You were a wonderful friend. You still support me with your words that help us bear this fatigue.
Finally, I want to talk about my only hero in this story It is true that we did not have a beautiful life like others the people But this war teaches you who is with you and who is against you Of course, after God, my husband was the consolation and he supports me so that I can continue this difficult life.
And he didn’t just support me. He supports all children in all places of displacement. He puts his life in danger to see a smile on these kids’ faces. I hope this story ends and my family is fine. I don’t want anything else.
Finally, I hope you support my family to build a new house and bring joy back."
As needs are ongoing longer than we all hoped, and prices are inflated, we are increasing our goal to 75,000. I hope you will continue to support this family and bring hope for the future.
MileStone!!! July 5th 2024: Thank you so much for your generosity and kindness. Early this week, the savings account reached just over $1k. So with the help of the family, I confirmed the location a nearby Western Union and initiated our first of many transfers. The donations should arrive by the 9th. This is a big and exciting step. Looking at the amazing progress we have made in the last few days, I expect to initiate another Western Union transfer next week after it is processed by GoFundme and my Credit Union.
Updates about the flow of donations: I plan to raise funds with your help and send your generous donations to Werood’s sister, Wafa, in Nasr, Egypt. Since my bank transfers are supported by GoFundMe, donations will go into a savings account and then I will use Western Union to get donations to Wafa at every 1,ooo mark.
Needs: Being displaced, Werood, her husband Yosef, and their daughter Oday are in need of funds to pay for all immediate needs and Inshallah rebuild their home and work after the war ends. The estimated cost of building a home is $30,000 USD.
Her family in their own words:
“Hello,
We are Werood, Yosef and Oday, our one and a half year old son.
I’m circus player, We are from Gaza and we have no choice but to ask for your help: we have lost everything and we no longer have the possibility to support ourselves independently and we are totally dependent on the support of others.
We’ve been suffering the worst for 7 months now.
Starting from displacement several times, from hunger to the total destruction of our home, to the loss of family members.
We find ourselves in a desperate situation as we write this and ask for your help.
We have dreams, aspirations and the desire for a better life, our son deserves to live a peaceful life, like all children.
The Israeli occupation has destroyed our home and our English learning centers (almost all).
We are left with nothing, faced with the sad reality of homelessness once this war ends.
But we trust that there is light and hope to end this war.”

About the organizer of this fundraiser: I am Muneerah Abdusshahid from the United States, currently residing in California. Werood and I connected on social media as she was looking for someone to help her family. It is important to me that no family in crisis that reaches out for help is refused when it is possible for someone to help them by simply creating a fundraiser online. I hope to successfully share this with as many people as possible so please donate what you can and share with everyone you know.
thank you
