We are the Reynolds Reybots, a FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics team from Victoria, B.C.
We are thrilled to announce that for the second year in a row our team has won the BC FIRST Tech Challenge Provincials. Coming first of the 41 teams in BC qualifies us to go to the World Championships in Houston, Texas. We qualified for this event last year and it was an amazing experience for our team. We got to meet and compete with teams from all over the world and made some great connections. Some of the alliance teams we partnered with were from Brazil, Taiwan, Mexico and Libya.
Our team has worked exceptionally hard this year, and our hard work has been recognized. We were provincial runners up for the THINK award which is given for demonstrating to judges the design process we went through in creating our robot.
We are the local winners of the INNOVATE Award for out of the box thinking related to our creative robot design.
Also we are the provincial winners of the Control Award which recognizes our team’s programming and use of sensors and software to improve our robots results.
Winning these awards is an incredible honour for us. In order to win an award your team must demonstrate Gracious Professionalism during competition. This means we are demonstrating a high-quality work ethic and we show respect and empathy, and value our competitors at all times.
Some of our other achievements this season include:
• An undefeated 18-0 record
• Holding the record for the BC/Yukon highest score
• Having the 29th highest score in the world for the driver-operated points
• Ranking 155 of 6125 teams worldwide
Attending the World Championships is an amazing opportunity for our team who have worked so hard achieve our current success. We are hoping to send 20 people on the trip. It is a valuable and potentially life changing experience. Students will meet and collaborate with teams from around the world. The cost of the trip just to cover airfare and accommodations is approximately $2,500 per person. This cost will be a barrier for many team members. We would really like for everyone on our team to be able to share this experience. Any amount that you can donate to support our team would be extremely helpful and we thank you for your consideration.
If you are not able to donate you can still help us! Please share this fundraising page with your friends, family, colleagues and any businesses you think may like to support us.
We are so proud of our team and our community and we look forward to representing, Reynolds High School, Victoria, British Columbia and Canada at this international event.
The Reynolds Reybots thank you for your support!
