Help The Salt Eaters Keep Our Home!

Donation protected
On October 1st, our 3-year lease renewal kicks in and our rent is increasing substantially. As many of you know, gentrification is sweeping through Inglewood and Greater Los Angeles, impacting so many of our beloved local businesses.

This year we experienced setbacks and with your love and support, we overcame them. We are fundraising $40,000 to spread evenly across 3-years to offset this increase and ensure we are able to survive this next wave of change in our community because we believe every neighborhood, every community deserves access to a Black bookstore. Despite the hardships, we plan on celebrating our two year anniversary this December with you, and with your support, we know we'll be here for many more years.

It has been so scary being a small business owner in this time. But we fought to get our space in Downtown Inglewood and are determined to fight to stay. Inglewood is our home.

We love our neighbors. We providing a home for our community fridge where any and every one can have access to free, fresh produce and meals. We love watching folks grab gems from our free book box and our lending library. We love creating space for big, big, Black queer joy. We love serving up Black feminist texts like Audre Lorde's Sister Outsider and sharing nostalgic faves like The Coldest Winter Ever with the next generation of Black girl readers. And we're not done.

If you're able, no donation is too small to contribute. We know this is a difficult economic time for so many of us and a share can do wonders. Tell a friend to tell a friend. We're in it for the long run.

(And if any of y'all know Beyoncé, tell her we said thank you for creating the album that fueled our rent parties and so many memories this year!)

Thank you for all your love and support since 2020!
