Help the Samon’s Replace Their Family Car.

Hi All,

In October 2020, during our cross-country move from NY to CA, my family and I were in a terrible car accident in the middle of Kansas.  We were moving from the East Coast to the West Coast and decided to drive instead of fly, due to the pandemic.  We sent a shipping container ahead of us, and put everything else we had in our minivan with our 3 kids and drove cross country.  

While we were on a highway in Kansas, someone blew a stop sign on a street that T’d onto the highway.  They tried to turn across our vehicle and go East Bound on the highway as we were traveling West Bound.  The collision happened at 60+mph with me, my wife,  4 year old, 23 month old, and 8 month old all in the minivan.  Thank God my family was able to walk away from the accident, but our minivan was not so lucky.  It was deemed a total loss and we had to leave it in Kansas and get a rental car, fill it with all of our stuff from the minivan, and continue the rest of the drive from Kansas to California. 

Since the minivan was a lease, the insurance company paid off the remainder of the loan to the bank that held the lease- so we had no more lease payments, which was good- but we also now lost our family car.  The minivan was the only car we owned that could fit all 5 of us.  The other car we have is a 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid and we can not fit 3 car seats in the back because it is way too small. 

Since October we have only had the Honda Civic and have not been able to go anywhere as the whole family.  If any of the kids have doctors appointments we need to make sure we make them on different days so that way one parent can stay home with 1 or 2 of the kids while the other parent takes the other kid to the doctors since it’s not possible to fit all of us in the Civic.  We have not been able to take the kids out anywhere or go anywhere as a family other than whatever is in walking distance from our house.

Our oldest starts Kindergarten in August and having a family car will be essential to pick her up and drop her off from school while my wife will be driving the Honda Civic to and from work. 

We are looking to raise $15,000 so that we can buy a used, reliable, safe family car that can fit 3 car seats in the back, and be able to take our family to school, doctor appointments, parks, friends houses, etc.

**Although both the police report and insurance investigations confirmed that we were completely not at fault for the accident, the insurance company will not replace our minivan (other than paying off the lease which they already did), and any possible settlement that might come out of this could be months to years away.**
