Help the Santa Monica Music Center
Donation protected
Please join the Santa Monica-Malibu Band and Orchestra Parents in helping the Santa Monica Music Center reopen. This family-owned business has been serving the Santa Monica-Malibu school district diligently for 50 years.
Lana Negrete serves on our SMMUSD Visual and Performing Arts District Advisory Committee, and her store, Santa Monica Music Center, is the vendor selected by the district for repairs, maintenance of district instruments and materials and supplies. Lana also leads a nonprofit called “Outreach Through the Arts” whose core purpose is to provide scholarship lessons for qualifying SMMUSD students. Lana works very hard to ensure that her business meets the needs of our community.
On May 31 the store was looted. While Lana had the foresight to take many of the instruments to a secured location in the early afternoon, everything that remained in the repair room was stolen, including at least a dozen cellos and violins, flutes, trumpets, plus some brand-new instruments like a euphonium and two keyboards that had just arrived. All operational equipment, computers, printers, transaction equipment was either stolen or destroyed.
It's our turn to help. We are hoping to raise enough funds to repair, rebuild, and reopen the Santa Monica Music Center as soon as possible . At this point, things are up in the air as to what insurance will cover. Please help if you are able. The store is such a positive part of our community, and we hope it continues to be able to survive.
THANK YOU.
