UPDATE FROM THE SCOTT FAMILY:

To update most that don’t know Lily has had chronic ear trouble most of her life. So much so that she lost her hearing from scaring from repeated ear infections and surgeries on her ears at a very young age. She was implanted last November with some fancy hearing system and she loves it and she navigates her hearing loss well and loves her implants. Over the summer however she developed an ear infection that would not clear despite many rounds of antibiotics. She went onto develop mastoiditis which is an infection of the bone behind the ear and she became very sick and went into septic shock with multi organ failure. It took her months to recover but she did and she went onto first grade, has made some beautiful friendships this year, started Sunday school, ballet, private swim lessons and was continuing to ride her horse Homeboy on Fridays.

Early October she got a cold. Nothing she couldn’t handle- mostly lots of boogers and a missed day of school. Her right ear began draining again shortly after. Multiple trips to her pediatrician who has done an amazing job trying his best to treat her ear infection and we just couldn’t get rid of the drainage. With our experience this past summer I was terrified we’d find ourselves once again with mastoiditis. Lily has an incredible high pain tolerance and she has a hard time telling us what hurts. It almost always comes out with behavior changes. Last week was a very hard week of difficult behaviors both at home and school and we all had our suspicions that this ear was really painful despite multiple rounds of oral antibiotics and drops. Her ear continued to drain. We continued taking her to the pediatrician and even the ER. Her ear culture grew out 2 different bugs. The same ones as the summer, one of which is resistant to most antibiotics. Another ER trip and an admission to the peds floor for a few days of antibiotics to clear it and we hoped to be back to her new puppy Birdie in a day or 2. While here she once again because septic with high fevers and vomiting and rigors. She became very toxic quite quickly but the worst has been her hypoxic respiratory failure where she desats to an oxygen level of 60%. She has been transferred to the PICU where she is sedated and on max respiratory support via something called bipap. She has full blown ARDS (acute respiratory distress syndrome) as well as fluid around her heart. Her next step is intubation and her doctor has warned us that she is very close to that step. Our hearts are just breaking for her. We miss her spunky little self, her laugh, her eyes. Eric was able to make it up to see her yesterday and she was happy to see him. To say we are terrified is an understatement. Please keep our little family close to your hearts as we watch our Tiger Lily fight with all she’s got.

(Other updates won’t be so long. I was just wanting to give the backstory.) Thank you for loving our Tiger Lily ❤️
