Help the Sherpa Family
Donation protected
On October 14th my boyfriend Dawa’s father, Nima Sherpa, was injured in a hit and run accident while visiting Kathmandu, Nepal. He is currently in the hospital in stable condition, having already undergone 2 surgeries to try and repair a shattered leg.
Though born and raised in Nepal, Mr. Sherpa is now a US citizen and no longer entitled to Nepal’s healthcare coverage. Because of this he will be paying out of pocket for most of his treatment in the hospital. Adding onto that, healthcare in the US rarely covers medical emergencies overseas, so you can imagine the financial toll that this will take on their family.
As he is still in the hospital, needing more treatment and possibly more surgeries, he will not be able to return to the US until the doctors have cleared him to make the 17 hour journey back home. This will mean that he will be out of work for at least another month. Not to mention how much longer he could be out of work once he returns home and continues his recovery. Further, Dawa’s mother will be traveling to Nepal in the coming days to help care for her husband, so she too will be taking time off from work.
This all comes at a time when, after 20 years of renting an apartment in NYC, the Sherpa family have recently put all of their savings into buying their first home in America. To ease some of their financial stress, I wanted to start a go fund me to help in the only way I really can.
The Sherpas are hardworking, proud people but the fact is the need is there. No amount is too small, and if you cannot financially donate, a prayer and a share can make the difference too. Thank you!
