Help the Specht Family

Donation protected
I’ve been friends with Sam Specht since we were in first grade. We had sleepovers at least once a week and her parents would always make me a special dinner of peanut butter and jelly or noodles with butter since I was so picky. We were in girl scouts together with our moms and we went to nature camp together. We went on family vacations together and became so close that her family was basically my second family and vice versa. Our moms became good friends and had scrapbooking nights together.

When we were seniors in high school, Sam called me to tell me that her mom, Eileen, had stage 4 meta static breast cancer. I couldn’t believe it. Here was this family who were such good, honest, hardworking people who I loved so much and to see them go through that was just so unfair. Eileen just wanted to make it to Sam’s high school graduation, but on May, 31, 2009, she lost her battle to cancer. The day we were all in that room at Hunterdon Medical Center was one of the worst days of my life- I just kept thinking I can’t even imagine what Sam, Steph, Dan and Mr. Specht must be going through.

Following Eileen’s passing, the Specht’s and their family participated in countless breast cancer awareness charity events in honor of the amazingly strong mother and wife she was. The siblings and Mr. Specht became super close knit.

Flash forward to 10 years later, the Specht children were all grown up and starting lives of their own while still remaining extremely close with their father and extended family. Sam texted me asking if she could give me a call. If you know Sam and I you know that we’re not the biggest talkers so I knew that something was wrong. She called and told me that her father, Chuck, had stage 4 lung cancer. This amazing man who was like my second dad, who had never smoked a day in his life, who was the nicest man who always put his family first- I couldn’t even wrap my head around it. How could one family who had already been through so much tragedy have to go through this all over again?

Chuck seemed to be doing okay for awhile and then on August 5, he passed away, a couple days after being able to do a wedding blessing for Sam and her fiancé, Jim.

The heartbreak that these 3 kids have gone through is so much more than anyone should ever have to go through in one lifetime.

Sam, Steph and Dan have such a strong bond and I don’t want them to have to even think twice about any bills on top of the grief they are already going through. This Go Fund Me would help pay off funeral expenses and medical bills.
