Help the Sun Family After a Tragic Fire
Donation protected
Hello, I'm Allen Sun, and today I come to you with a heartfelt request during an incredibly challenging time in our lives. On the morning of Tuesday, November 7th, a tragic event unfolded: a devastating house fire struck our home in Palatine, Illinois. This fire has profoundly impacted my elderly mother, May Sun, who bravely battles Alzheimer's and diabetes.
Four years ago, I returned home to care for Mom, who was beginning to show signs of dementia. That decision brought us closer, turning our home into a place of shared memories and support. Our lives took an unexpected turn early that Tuesday morning when my mother, despite her Alzheimer's, was the one to alert me to smoke emanating from her room. Her awareness in that crucial moment enabled us to quickly evacuate the house and call 911, a decision that ensured our safety.
As we stood outside, the reality of our situation began to sink in, amplified by the early morning chill and the sight of our burning home. It was then that Antonia, a kind-hearted neighbor from down the street, stepped in with an act of generosity that I’ll never forget. She invited us into her warm home, away from the prying eyes and the biting cold, as the firefighters worked tirelessly to extinguish the flames.
Antonia provided comfort and a sense of safety with her hospitality, offering us a place to rest and a warm meal while we waited for the situation to stabilize. This act of neighborly kindness was a much-needed comfort and a poignant reminder of the community's spirit in times of need. We are deeply thankful for her generosity and even more grateful that, despite the circumstances, no one was hurt.
The fire originated in my mother's room, caused by a space heater, and it completely destroyed her room and its contents. Additionally, the rest of the house sustained extensive fire damage, affecting most of our belongings. We are incredibly grateful for our insurance coverage, but the process of rebuilding will take an estimated 8 to 9 months.
As a result, we are currently displaced and living in a hotel while we await temporary housing. The unexpected displacement and loss of our personal belongings have been emotionally and financially challenging. We are seeking your assistance to help us bridge this gap during the recovery period.
We are humbly asking for your support to raise funds for the short term. These funds will be used to cover immediate needs such as clothing, essential items, and other necessities to replace what we've lost. Your generous contributions will provide much-needed relief as we navigate this difficult journey toward recovery.

Your support, no matter the size, will make a significant difference in helping us rebuild our lives after this traumatic event. We appreciate your kindness, generosity, and thoughts during this challenging time. Please share our campaign with your friends and family to help us reach our goal.
Thank you for being a part of our journey to recovery. Your support brings us closer to home.
Warmly,
Allen and May Sun
