Help the Tanaka-Tone Ohana Recover After Tragedy

Aloha Kind Friends,
The devastating fires in Lahaina are now the deadliest US wildfires in over a century. As longtime third-generation Maui residents, we watched in horror as so much was lost, and so much of our parents’ and grandparents’ childhood stomping grounds and memories burned.
One of our cousins, Kevin Tanaka, experienced this devastation directly. His wife Saane’s parents Faaso and Malui Fonua Tone, sister Salote Takafua, and 7-year-old nephew, Tony Takafua were tragically killed while attempting to flee the Lahaina wildfire. They were discovered Thursday morning in a burned-out car near their home. Words cannot express how devasting this is for the family, many who have lost everything.
Kevin and Saane had no time to grieve. They are now sheltering the rest of the family who was able to evacuate in time in their own home. With now 16-20 people living in their house, Kevin is concerned with keeping everyone safe, especially given the traumatic circumstances. Top-of-mind worries include necessities such as food, water, and clothing, and essential utilities such as electricity and water. Maui utilities are expensive for a family of 5. Their utility bills are expected to at least double with 3x the number of family members now sheltering with them.
We (Kevin’s cousins) organized this fundraiser to give the grieving Tone family a little peace of mind with supplies and expenses as they start to rebuild their lives and the community. We hope that you will donate to this cause if you are able to. Your donations will go directly to the needs of the Tanaka and Tone families. The months and years ahead will be extremely difficult. This is an unprecedented tragedy and we thank you so much for your generosity and kindness.
