Help the Thompson Family's Coconut to Recover

On July 14, 2023, the Thompson family’s beloved dog, Coconut, was hit by a car and brought to the Eastern Maine Emergency Veterinary Clinic in Brewer. Coco has a bruised back leg/hip area; bleeding in her eyes and swelling in her brain. The vet told Megan and Lonnie that Coco could have had a seizure. He also said after the swelling goes away she could have neurological delays or changes in behavior. Coconut is experiencing a great deal of pain. She was given multiple medications for pain, seizures, inflammation, and eye drops. While no bones are broken, her mouth and face are sore so anytime she lays her head down to rest, she’s in pain. Clearly, Coconut will require a significant amount of care. It is unknown at this time just how much care.

On day two the Thompsons took Coconut back to see another vet. This vet says she has at least two teeth that are cracked in half with the roots showing, possibly more. Coco is scheduled for tooth extractions on July 19th. Once under anesthesia, the vet will be able to completely examine Coconut for any other injuries.

This has been a terrible ordeal for Coconut and the Thompson family. Coco is a beloved family member. The emotional burden is large. The emergency vet visits, dental surgery, medicines, and additional future vet visits represent an even larger financial burden.
