Help the van Tol family get back on their feet- Storm Appeal

On the morning of 6 April 2024, Nick, Carla and their two young girls were impacted by the severe storms when their Figtree NSW home became inundated with storm water.

As the water levels were quickly rising in Nick and Carla's street and their yard, Carla and their two girls managed to evacuate and get to safety just in time, but instead of Nick leaving with his family, Nick’s instincts kicked in and he heroically stayed in the storm waters to rescue those who needed his assistance. Nick, in chest deep water, held onto a rope attached to a telegraph pole across the street and rescued his neighbour’s children to safety from their home. Nick is a local volunteer RFS member who spends his spare time continually helping the community. It is asked that the community whether friends, family or businesses, now help the van Tol family by making a donation to help them get back on their feet.

Unfortunately, the impacts from the storm waters resulted in their home being inhabitable and they are still residing in alternate accommodation. The damage has resulted in repairs to their home as well as many of their contents needing to be replaced. Whilst they tried to salvage what they could, many of their belongings both inside and outside of their home were destroyed. They are now without certain whitegoods, beds, lounges, toys for the girls, items in their shed and now need to replace kitchen cupboards, floor boards, skirting boards, wardrobes and carpet to be able to move back into their home.

The van Tol family have recently been contacted by their insurance company who have declined their claim for any cover for the damage caused by the storms and the water.

They have already experienced devastation from the damage caused to their family home and their possessions which were destroyed by the storm waters, now they also have to bear the financial burden of the repairs to their home and the replacement of many of their belongings.
