Who are Muscat Dog Adoption?

- Muscat Dog Adoption (MDA) is a non profit dog rescue organization, established in 2005, run by a group of dog loving volunteers in Muscat, Oman. MDA's aim is to rescue abandoned, injured and distressed dogs in Muscat. Once in MDA's care, the rescued dogs receive necessary veterinary treatment such as vaccinations against diseases, neutering/spaying, worm and flea treatment and any other treatment that may be required. The rescued dogs are then taken to MDA's makeshift pound where they are placed alone or with another dog in a large safe kennel space. There is a superb kennel hand who feeds the dogs twice a day and keeps the kennels spotlessly clean. The dedicated volunteers visit the pound in their free time to walk and socialise the dogs, teach them basic commands and monitor their health and behaviour. This helps us to assess the dogs' personalities and determine what kind of home would be best suited for them. Some of our dogs are lucky to go into foster care which is great for them to have more one to one attention, be house trained and have regular walks in a variety of environments.

The difficulty of dog rescue in Oman:

- Oman has no animal welfare laws yet and as a consequence there is no government funding for charities or shelters. It is therefore very challenging rescuing dogs with limited resources but we do as much as we can within our means.

The problems we’re currently facing with fundraising:

- This year started off with the sad passing of Sultan Qaboos which left the country in mourning for 40 days during which time all events were cancelled. This means that we were unable to hold one of our bigger fundraising events which raises lots of money. To add to this, Covid-19 has not meant a ban on all social gathering, therefore we again cannot hold one of our bingo nights or car boot sales as planned.

Why we need your help:

- We have running monthly pound costs of 300 rial which pays the kennel hand’s salary plus food & cleaning materials. We also have the vets bills to clear for the recently rescued dogs.

How your donation will help:

- Your donation will go towards the above costs in helping to maintain the pound and keep the dogs fed! Also to allow us to help rescue dogs like Lucky (seen in the picture) who was shot twice in the neck simply for living on the street .

Any donation is gratefully received and no amount is too small .

Thank you very much  :)
