Dear friends, family, and kindhearted strangers,

We are delighted that you found this page, and it's with heavy hearts we ask you for help on behalf of our family in Los Angeles County. Our names are Danielle and Chris Schell and we are raising money to support our grandparents, mother, brother, uncle and aunt to RISE AGAIN. We currently live in the Bay Area and raising funds is the best way we know how to help as this time.

On January 8th, in one day, the world the Washingtons knew was gone. Much like many of their neighbors, our family has had roots in Altadena for more than 4 generations, with the elders moving west during the Second Great Migration, and settling in California. Allene and Leon Washington bought their family home in 1975, raising their 4 children there and serving as the spiritual, emotional, and physical center of our family's universe. All four adult children live nearby, with 3 of the 4 losing their homes in the Eaton Canyon Fire.

In February 2025, Allene and Leon will share 67 years of marriage, and 50 years in the house. The Washington family is now faced with a near-impossible task of starting over. There were a total of 3 houses which burnt to the ground. These three homes were focal points for countless stories, memories, and love.

In addition to Allene and Leon Sr.'s house, Leon Jr. and his wife Gwen, as well as Judi and her son Cameron, lost their homes. Although many families will never see climate destruction this close to home, this family is hit with the catastrophic burden of 3 homes being taken in less than 24 hours.
