jojo’s update 12-24 from mom.

Chemo was started Friday with just one drug. We will go home tomorrow and then return to the hospital Friday for the next chemo treatment with two drugs. Christmas is right around the corner and would love for a miracle to happen for this family!

Jojo's Post-op update 12/10

Thanks to all who held Jojo in their thoughts and prayers for her procedures today. The liver biopsy was done first, an initial sample was taken and quickly checked by the pathologist to confirm it was a good site to collect the standard 10 samples for biopsy. Next they did determine that a central line would be more appropriate for Jojo than a port. That was placed and then she had to remain flat on her back, and thus sedated, for a total of 4 hours from the biopsy time. This was to allow a clot to form over the biopsy sites as the mass is very vascular (lots of blood flow). Blood loss was expected from this procedure and her post op blood work did show that her hemoglobin was borderline low. I signed consent for a blood transfusion if needed and they will continue to check hemoglobin every six hours. She drank some sugar water for me in recovery, has had 4oz of formula since we came back to the room, but is mostly sleeping.

update 12/7/24 After speaking with more of the doctors the plan is for her to have a liver biopsy and a chemo port placement on monday or Tuesday. They will stat the pathology results and try to have hepatoblastoma confirmed by the end of the week so they can start the 1st of 4 rounds of chemo before potential surgery. The tumor is too large and has metastasized to her lungs so the chemo will hopefully kill the metastasis and shrink the tumor to operable size at which time will be determined she has enough healthy liver remaining or she needs a liver transplant.

  • Hello, my name is Kaitlynn and my daughter’s best friends family just got some devastating news today that one of their nine month old triplet daughters has cancer and will need to undergo surgery and chemo. The Wells Family is an amazing family that just welcomed babies 5,6,7 back in March as they were also premature. She was hospitalized at 28 weeks in February and they were born C-section at 32 weeks in March because K and V shared a sac and cords were tangled. They went home about 3 months later in May/June. Jojo was the triplet that had her own sac but the doctors deemed it was all one placenta so they were all identical. It was a spontaneous triplet pregnancy so hadn't planned to be out of work before having them. She also didn't anticipate needing to take extended time off after and step down from her management position. Triplets are a lot of work and she breastfed them for 5 months which was a full time job. Her husband wellman is a disabled veteran with a purple heart. His rank was E5 Sergeant. Who stays at home and takes care of the kids while Stacey works. She went back to work in October, remaining part time at her current job and picking up a new full-time job overnight. With Jojo's cancer diagnosis it is only fair to all of her children that she take’s another leave of absence to split her time between the hospital and home. She will be going back and fourth between U OF M and her home. I am setting up this fundraiser to try and help this family at this tough time especially getting this devastating news three weeks before Christmas. So anything will help gift cards food, she is not sure how long her leave will be. We will keep an update as we get it. Please keep Stacey and her family in your thoughts and prayers.
