Help the Winter Family

In the early morning of January 6th, 2024 Eric woke up in excruciating pain unable to breathe, walk, or move without being in horrible pain. Eric was taken to the Glens Falls Hospital where he sat for hours to be told that he had broken multiple discs in his lower back that were pressing on his spine. After his pain was deemed “manageable” he was sent home. On Monday, January 8th, I received a phone call at work where I was being told that I needed to race home and bring Eric to Albany Medical Center because he could not move due to the pain. Once we got to the emergency room at Albany Medical Center, Eric waited over 26 hours in a hallway before he was given any help or support. On the evening of January 9th, Eric was finally brought back for surgery.

When Eric returned home he was following his postoperative recovery plan diligently, but he started experiencing pain again. At his most recent follow-up appointment, Eric expressed his concerns to the doctor, stating that the pain felt just as it did before his first surgery. Eric’s doctor, Dr. Cheney, sent in a request for another MRI in hopes of finding some answers. Once the MRI was completed, Eric was called back down to Albany and told that even more discs were shattered and he was going to need another invasive surgery.

Eric is now scheduled for surgery on March 29th. This surgery is different than his first one since he will have metal rods placed along his spine as well as sections of his vertebrae fused together in hopes of giving his back and spine the support it needs. This surgery has a minimum recovery time of 12 weeks.

During this time, I will be out of work to help aide Eric in his recovery. With that being said, we need some help. We hate asking for help but with two young boys at home, we need to push our pride aside. At this time, I have exhausted all of my sick days, as well as, the sick bank days that were donated from my school during the first surgery. We will not have any income coming into the house to help buy groceries, diapers and other necessities for the boys, pay bills, and follow up care for Eric. Since we both were out of work during his last surgery, I have exhausted all of our funds and credit cards. We are at a complete loss.

Asking for help is never easy but with some support we can keep living and give Eric the time he needs to recover. We appreciate your support and prayers during this time.

With Love,
Sarah, Eric, Eli, & Easton
