Help the YaKaMein Lady Complete Cardiac Care

My name is Lydia Benson, and my best friend is Linda Green. You may know her as Ms. Linda, the YaKaMein Lady. Recently, Ms. Linda underwent successful open-heart bypass surgery at Touro Hospital that was covered by her insurance. However, in order to completely recover, she will now need to complete a post-op cardiac therapy program three times a week for 3

months starting 6/14/22. Unfortunately, she was just made aware that her insurance will NOT cover the full cost of

this treatment, and she will be responsible for $300 per visit starting June 14th. That’s a total of $10,800!

From Tragedy to Triumph

For 25 years, Linda Green worked in the cafeterias of Orleans Parish Schools. Then, Hurricane Katrina hit. She lost her job,

one year shy of retirement. Ms. Linda quickly recovered with the help of her mother Shirley’s YaKaMein recipe. Years earlier, Linda recorded that recipe just before her mother’s passing. Now, she would take that recipe and create what would

eventually become a New Orleans staple…” Ms. Linda’s YaKaMein .” A legacy she will one day pass down to her

grandchildren.

Ms. Linda has faced numerous challenges as a minority small business owner, but has overcome them all to receive National and International acclaim. Linda Green is definitely a local icon. It is safe to say, If Irma Thomas is the SOUL QUEEN of New Orleans, then Linda Green is the SOUL FOOD QUEEN of New Orleans.

There is no doubt that with a bit of help, Ms. Linda will triumph over this unforeseen setback as well, and we will all be

feasting on those delicious fried pork chop sandwiches at Jazz Fest next year.

A Heart of Gold

Those of you that know Linda Green personally know her generous nature. Whether it’s volunteering, donating to a charity,

feeding the homeless and first responders, or campaigning for positive change, one thing is clear, Ms. Linda gives back to
