Help Third Wave Music Bounce Back after Break-In
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Jen David, and I'm a Detroit musician who opened a music store in the city seven years ago called Third Wave Music.
There wasn't a resource like this for my fellow musicians in the city proper, and unfortunately, since we opened, many music shops that we loved in the suburbs have since closed. If you know about Third Wave Music, you know that I poured in my little savings and did a hell of a lot of fundraising and loan-taking just to get our doors open.
Remember this?
I've been proud to keep Third Wave Music open for seven years, through a few unthinkable global catastrophes, and happily serve my community. Third Wave Music has been open long enough now that we've grown WITH our customers. It's the most incredible feeling to stand in the audience at a show and think back to when I sold the performer their first guitar or synth! Because of the strong community of musicians in Detroit, we've been able to exist and never face any attack on our space. I believe that Detroiters, especially musicians, always try to watch each other's backs.
But after seven years with zero break-ins, it happened.
On Monday, October 10th, our iron gate and front door jam were broken off in the middle of daylight, and someone grabbed everything they could see –and carry– and rode away on their bike before anyone noticed. Our locks failed us, our alarm system failed us, and our insurance failed us. The systems we've paid for–for years!–have not been of any help, and that's why we are asking you.
Some people may not realize when entering the store that Third Wave is run by just one person, with a lot of help from a great community of teachers, repair personnel, and peers. I work multiple other jobs to keep Third Wave running. Unfortunately, this is why something like a break-in can set us back so far :(
Your support will keep our doors open.
Here is how your funds will help:
- Replace the items stolen (3,000$ of inventory including a Novation Circuit Tracks Groovebox, Circuit Tracks Rhythm, Critter & Guitari Bolsa Bass, Korg Monologue, and teenage engineering TX6)
- Buy a new security camera system for indoor/outdoor monitoring
- Upgrade our alarm system cameras
- Live monitoring
- Reinforce our outdoor gate
- Change our insurance provider
Thank you so much for reading this, and donating to our cause, if you're able. Any amount helps a lot and will help us stay open and serve our community. We want to stay here and stay in business! We love Detroit and we love music!
