Help this Teacher get Top Surgery!
Donation protected
By 4:00 p.m. every day, I am struggling to breathe. As I wave goodbye to my students, the familiar pain in my ribs begins to peak. Binding has given me the freedom to live as myself but at a huge cost.
As a transmasculine person, I wear a chest binder every day for my mental well-being, as well as for my safety and privacy. A chest binder gives me the illusion of being flat without having any surgery. I need to wear it every day in order to keep my identity as a trans person private and to quell my dysphoria.
However, in my role as a special education teacher, I constantly run around the school building, up and down three flights of stairs, in order to serve kids across the school. Binding significantly restricts my breathing and makes my job physically taxing.
I have scheduled top surgery for the end of December 2019. However, my insurance will only cover part of the procedure and I am responsible for paying over $4,000. As you can imagine, this amount is difficult to save on a teacher's salary.
Your help will not only make my dream of top surgery come true, but it will also allow me to keep teaching. I know it's rough out here, so any little bit you can give is greatly appreciated. And if you can't give, a share also goes a long way.
Thank you so much for reading! Peace, love, and revolution,
Rafa
