Help those displaced from NWT fires in Enterprise

Hi,

my name is Jaysen Cameron and I am writing to you from the North West Territories. I came here for a job to help rebuild some government housing. What I didn’t know is I came here for so much more then just that.

In a span of being here for just 5 days I witnessed my crew lose their entire lives in a span of hours due to the wild fires.

Enterprise, the “gateway to the north” has been a home base and hub for people entering the Northwest Territories for many years.

Time after time, this hamlet of 75 people have hosted thousands of evacuees from all over the territories. Most recently in the last few days, they have hosted evacuees from fort smith and Hay river. In previous years, evacuees fleeing from major flooding on the hay river, and catastrophic forest fires ripping through the land like tornadoes.

The humble people of this town continually open their doors and offer safe haven to those who are in need, often giving up their homes entirely to those in need.

This small but proud community is filled with amazing people who would give the shirt off their backs to anyone in need.

Regular citizens, sharing rooms with families who have nowhere to go.

Volunteers, who keep working long after retirement to help make a difference in the community. Local entrepreneurs, sharing fuel and braving roads of ice to ensure that our homes are heated and functioning properly.

But this time, the town of enterprise needs your help.

In the afternoon of Sunday, August 13th. Extreme high winds shifted direction and pushed a nearby forest fire out of control.

The town of Enterprise was in its path and took a direct hit. In the matter of a few hours, the fire had travelled dozens of kilometres, jumped the highway and headed directly for town.

The damage done is unprecedented and catastrophic.

The vast majority of town members now have nothing but piles of melted rubble.

Most are left with only the clothes on their backs, as homes, trucks, trailers, everything, have all disintegrated. Some are uninsured and will be forced to seek asylum any way they can.

This community is filled with honourable and enduring people. Renowned citizen, Mike Kimble, stayed long after the town was evacuated. Using his water truck, he fought the blaze until RCMP forced him to be escorted away from danger. Only for him to return to enterprise to continue fighting. Genuine heros like these are what makes up this community, as well as many others who stayed to the bitter end to help.

The people of this town need your help!

Wether it’s to provide food, clothing, transportation, shelter, or basic necessities, the men women and children of this town are in dire need.
