Help Thunderbird Wildlife Rescue Restore Chippewa

Donation protected
Jenn Salo owns and operates the not-for-profit Thunderbird Wildlife Rescue here in Thunder Bay and works tirelessly everyday to rescue, provide care for and rehabilitate sick, injured or orphaned wildlife.

After 7 months of "red tape" Jenn recently acquired the Chippewa Zoo property and is in the process of restoring and converting the buildings and enclosures to support the needs of the beautiful and majestic birds she cares for.

Even with the already incredible outpour of support from the community there are still some major roadblocks before the restoration can continue. Jenn needs to comply with requirements from the City of Thunder Bay while also working to achieve the MNRF’s Standard of Wildlife Rehabilitation requirements to get everything up to code.

All improvements to the main building and existing structures must be submitted to City and approved. On top of that not just anyone is able to complete the improvements, it has to be a contractor who can provide insurance and safety certificates along with other required formalities.

With contractor costs to consider on top the monthly bills for the property Jenn has reached out to the community for help (see the Facebook link below). The money raised from this GoFundMe campaign will help Jenn keep the renovation efforts moving forward and will help her to maintain the ongoing costs through the renovation process.
On Facebook you can also see more of what Jenn is working on at Chippewa and all the wonderful work Jenn has been doing for our local birds of prey.

Jenn’s passion and dedication is truly inspiring and she does do so much for our community through this work and I for one am incredibly excited to see her succeed in this new venture.

Birds of Prey are a crucial part of the ecosystem as they help maintain the balance of many other populations, they help local farms by controlling pests, they help us gauge how healthy a habitat is and can help with disease management which helps keep the environment safe for other animals.
