Help Tilapia With Her Eye Treatment

Donation protected
Hi friends,

We're crowd sourcing $2400+ to cover medical expenses for our recently adopted little 14.5 year old cat, Ms Tilapia.

The sweetest, most precious cat moved into our front yard in 2021. She's been a favorite amongst all the tenants -- and we call her Tilapia! Overall, Tilapia is in wonderful health, other than her left eye, which has completely clouded over time. A few months ago, Tilapia adopted us and moved into our home full time - so we decided to get her checked out. After consulting multiple vets, they all agreed that she had severe glaucoma, which was causing her a lot of pain and would eventually need eye removal (it risked rupture, infection and death!).

As a favor, a local vet performed the surgery at a discount. Biopsy results will come in a week so that we can pinpoint a cause for the glaucoma. After a few days of slow but steady healing, Tilapia's personality has returned and she should make a full recovery - as a one eyed pirate princess :)

Since Tilapia is a recent adoption, we did not have pet insurance, nor would such a pre-existing condition be eligible for coverage. We were forced to pay for the very expensive procedure out of pocket to save her life. Depending on the biopsy results, we may need to pursue further treatment, and might need to go to an ophthalmologist to preserve her other eye (Unfortunately, the pressure in her right eye is on the cusp of turning into glaucoma as well).

We've never had a cat before and are quickly learning how expensive senior cat care can be. We have take the responsibility for Tilapia's health head on, and, this month alone, we have accumulated expenses totaling over $3000! We are sharing this GoFundMe in the hopes that some kind hearted and compassionate pet lovers will be able to help us out....

These are just some of the expenses we've incurred to take care of this precious, loving little Nebelung:

Tilapia's Initial Expenses:
  • Vet Visit (vaccines, senior hemoglobin test, pain meds): $550
  • Brimodine Eye Drops (Per Bottlle / Bi-monthly): $340
  • Enuculation + Biopsy: $1310
  • Medical home care (cone, waterless shampoo, litterbox + hypoallergenic litter [she went outside until this point], carrier): $200
  • Misc (food, water fountain, flea meds, cat proofing items, toys, feeding bowls, etc): $600+

Potential Future Expenses:
  • Ophthalmologist 1st Visit (to get her good eye assessed): $370+
  • Ongoing treatment to preserve her right eye: Unknown?
  • Biopsy treatment: Unknown?

Tilapia is a tough cookie. Based on the date from an old microchip, we've determined that she is over 14.5 years old (74+ in human years!). According to our neighbors, she was abandoned by her original owners. She recently lost the safe haven of our grass lawn after it was ripped up and removed by our landlords...

Tilapia is the sweetest, most gentle little cat we've ever met. We want to give her a permanent home and the best possible quality of life in her remaining years. Anything you can spare will help. Lots of love and many, many thank you's!

Best,

Sara & Dalton & Lucas
