Ronan Strong: A Family’s Battle Against Krabbe’s Disease

Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers,

My name is Dustin, and I’ve had the privilege of being friends with Tim for around 10 years. Over that time, he’s truly become more like a brother to me. Recently, Tim and his wife Sidney received devastating news that has turned their world upside down. Their sweet 7-month-old son, Ronan—their firstborn and only child, and the light of their life—was diagnosed with Krabbe disease, a rare and devastating genetic disorder.

Krabbe disease is progressive and heartbreaking, and there is no known cure. It affects the nervous system, breaking down the protective covering around the nerves and leading to severe neurological issues. Tim and Sidney have been through countless hospital visits, desperate to understand why Ronan was struggling. After an initial misdiagnosis, their worst fears were confirmed when a second specialist diagnosed Ronan with Krabbe disease.

For Ronan, this means facing significant challenges ahead—muscle weakness, seizures, and vision loss among them. Tragically, most children with Krabbe do not survive beyond two years of age. Tim and Sidney’s lives have been completely upended. Instead of enjoying their new beginnings in a new place and with new careers, their days are now filled with doctors’ appointments, hospital visits, and seeking treatments that may help slow the progression of this cruel disease.

As part of Ronan’s treatment, Tim and Sidney will need to travel to specialized medical centers to get the best possible care. At this point, they’re not sure whether that means going to Minnesota or Pittsburgh, but the cost of travel will add to the already mounting medical expenses. We are asking for your help to ease this burden.
