Help Tim Get Through the Trial — Goal Reached!
Donation protected
**We have reached our goal and then some! Thank you all for your support — it made a world of difference. I will update as Tim moves forward! Thank you all again.**
My name is Adam, I’m a friend of Tim Hammond, and I’m writing this story and asking for help because Tim can’t do it himself.
On April 5th, 2021, Tim got a call that would change his life forever.
It was the police.
His daughter Archer had been murdered by her mother.
The details of the crime are too horrific to discuss, but they’ve been discussed numerous times in the media — you won’t have trouble finding what Tim’s ex did to his child and why she claims she did it.
If you really want to know about it, you can read it here, but be warned, it's very hard to read.
Since receiving that call, Tim’s life has descended into chaos. Horrific isn’t a strong enough word for what that day was like. Every parent in the world dreads receiving a call that their child has been harmed, but this was on another level completely. This is the stuff of nightmares. This is the kind of thing you see on TV. This is the stuff that happens to other people.
But it happened. It happened to Tim’s daughter, and the intervening years haven’t made things better — not a bit.
I’ve talked to Tim regularly since that day, and what I have seen is a broken man. He has not healed. Every day is a mighty struggle. Every evening is filled with nightmares. The same images over and over — the god-awful details that the police described to him about what his daughter’s last moments were like.
How she suffered.
Unlike someone who loses a child in an accident, Tim hasn’t had the luxury of everyone forgetting and moving on with their lives. That’s because this was a crime, and the woman who committed the crime, Madison McDonald, has refused to take responsibility for what she did. She’d prefer to stand trial.
Which means the last few years have been filled with visits to the prosecutor’s office for Tim.
Which means he gets to relive that day, over and over, every time they need more information when building the case.
And guess what?
They need to talk to Tim a lot.
The result is about what you would expect. Tim suffers from extreme anxiety, depression, and PTSD.
It wasn’t long after Archer’s death that Tim lost his job at Amazon. He moved briefly to Colorado and started working there last year, but when the prosecutor started calling in earnest because the trial was looming, things once again fell apart. His depression is so bad at times that he sleeps for 20 hours on end. His thoughts are a blur. He can barely bring himself to take care of basic tasks.
When his car broke down, it was too overwhelming to handle. He’s been carless for months.
If it weren’t for the support of his girlfriend and his family, who knows where he’d be.
He hasn’t been able to work for months, and with the trial beginning in April, which will require him to be an hour away from home, in a courtroom, all day long, getting a job now isn’t possible.
The simple fact is that Tim needs closure, and he won’t get it until this trial is complete. But to show up at the trial, to be available for when the prosecutors and the defense want him on the stand, he has to go to the courthouse five days a week, all day long, and sit outside the court just in case they decide to call him in.
Which is kind of hard to do when you’re sleeping 20 hours a day and can barely think and have no job and no income and a car that doesn’t work.
You would think the legal system would help him with this, but their reimbursement program is a joke. They will pay you back for your expenses… eventually… in a few months.
Tim doesn’t have money to spend on this. He doesn’t have the luxury of waiting a few months to get paid back.
Perhaps quite unfairly, Tim needs help to make this trial happen.
I’ve worked with Tim to figure out precisely how much he needs. That $4,640 figure did not come out of thin air — it’s very specific.
He needs help getting to and from the trial, and he needs help paying for the mental health support he’s going to need to make it through the trial without going completely insane.
The trial is projected to last two weeks, but as many of you know, the legal system isn’t exactly known for its efficiency. A month seems more likely, which means the trial will possibly stretch into mid-May.
Here’s the breakdown of everything Tim needs to make it to and through the trial:
- $300 for gas (90 miles a day, 20 mpg, 20 days, a $30 cushion given fluctuations in traffic and gas prices)
- $2500 to fix car (flooded engine that has to be totally replaced)
- $1040 for grief therapy (once a week at $130/session for 8 weeks, paid out of pocket) for the remainder of March, all of April, and part of May until trial is over
- $400 for food ($20/day for 20 days during the trial for 1–2 meals/day while in Dallas)
- $400 for meds ($200/month for 8 weeks, the remainder of March, all of April, and part of May until trial is over for anxiety meds and antidepressants)
This is the bare minimum. The therapy is possibly one of the most important pieces of this puzzle. Without this, he might not be able to force himself to go through what is going to be a living nightmare.
However, Tim is committed to being at this trial. His life has been CONSUMED by this trial for the past couple of years. He wants to see justice done for his little girl. He wants this nightmare to end.
He just needs a little help.
Donate what you can. Every little bit makes a difference.
Thank you for reading.
**Go Fund Me has asked me to clarify how the money will get to Tim. I'll be withdrawing the money into my account, and then I'll be sending the money to Tim. Right now, I'm waiting on Go Fund Me to authorize my bank account.**
