Help Tim Shaffer's Comeback Journey
Donazione protetta
I'm reaching out to you today with a heavy heart and a strong desire to help our dear friend, Tim Shaffer, during this challenging chapter in his life. Tim, an avid mountain biker and loving father, recently faced a life-altering crash that has left him and his family in need of support and resources.
On Monday, September 4th, 2023, tragedy struck as Tim was pursuing his passion at Bogus Basin on a popular Black Diamond jump line, called Rabid Badger. This run held a special place in Tim's heart, and he frequented it with unbridled enthusiasm. He really loved to “send it” down this trail. However, this fateful day took an unexpected turn, resulting in an emergency surgery later that day. Tim sustained critical injuries to his spine, specifically between the T12 and L1 vertebrae. To alleviate the damage, a bridge was surgically inserted, and while his spinal cord remains severely injured, it miraculously avoided complete severance. We've witnessed Tim's unwavering strength as the swelling decreases, allowing slight sensation and small movements in his legs to return. Additionally, his left collarbone was broken along with three ribs but, thankfully, does not require surgery and is expected to heal in approximately six weeks.
Tim's determination and resilience are awe-inspiring. He's approaching his recovery with a positive mindset and an unwavering spirit, ready to embark on his COMEBACK PATH. His mother, Debby, and father Gene are dedicated to supporting him every step of the way and his Mom plans to take him to a renowned rehabilitation center in Salt Lake City next week if everything goes as planned. However, the cost of transportation to Salt Lake City is estimated at around $5,000.00, and that's where we come in!! Tim's love for mountain biking was boundless, and he cherished the sense of community it brought. He actively participated in the summer downhill series at Bogus Basin and generously volunteered his time to help maintain the trails during the spring. Whether he was shredding the dirt jumps downtown, conquering Sage Fright at the Eagle Bike Park, or reveling in the beauty of Bogus Basin, Tim's smile was his constant companion on two wheels.
Yet, Tim's greatest joy lay in his family, particularly his beloved son, Yuri. He overcame countless obstacles, graduating from Boise State with a degree in geology while juggling two jobs. Tim's dedication and resilience made his parents exceptionally proud. Tim and Yuri shared many precious moments together, from camping trips to snowboarding adventures, movie nights to swimming sessions, and the joy of learning about the world around them. Tim's patience, intelligence, and enthusiasm for teaching were evident as he introduced Yuri to new experiences and knowledge.
As Tim embarks on this challenging journey to recovery in Salt Lake City, he needs both financial support and the comfort of knowing that his friends are behind him. We are all rallying for Tim, and any contribution you can make, whether financial or through your time and presence, will make a significant difference. If you are able to provide financial assistance, please consider making a donation to help cover the expenses associated with Tim's rehabilitation and transportation. Every dollar counts, and together, we can help Tim return to the activities and the life he loves. Additionally, if you have the time and opportunity, Tim is currently at St. Al's off Curtis in room 3470. Your visits and support would mean the world to him and his family, especially his mother, Debby, and brother, Jon, who have been steadfastly by his side throughout this trying week.
Tim's strength, love for life, and dedication to his family are qualities that inspire us all. Let's join hands and stand with Tim on his comeback journey, helping him overcome this formidable challenge and return to the mountains and moments that bring him joy.
Update: It's Saturday less then 24 hours into the fund raiser and we hit the $5,000 goal. In reality that was a single cost in Tim's journey so lets see if we can double it! Thank you to everyone that has put time, money, energy, and prayer into this.
It's now Sunday night and we are approaching our $10,000 goal. I spoke to Tim today at the hospital with many visitors, and he is overwhelmed with joy! Thank you to everyone involved!! I'm going to move our goal to $15,000 :)
