Help Tiny Stray Kitten Bandit Hit By Car

Donation protected
Yesterday(7/22/23) I was awakened by a call from my dear friend Allison McDaniel who was working at the our veterinary clinic. Good Samaritans saw a tiny kitten crawling in the road, obviously hit by a car. They picked up the kitten to drive him to our clinic, but in his attempt to get away he crawled into the console of their car. At the clinic the kitten became more afraid and crawled deeper into the dashboard. Animal control, fire, police, AAA, bystanders, etc. could not help. My fiancé Gil and I drove to the vet clinic I manage. When Gil and I arrived the finders were taking apart their dashboard. We could barely see a kitten foot visible inside the dashboard. I got the gloves and carefully reached in and got little kitty out. He was so good, never offering to scratch or bite. Dashed him into the clinic. Radiographs showed a badly broken left femur, broken right tibia, and a broken tail. Bandit is pale and his temp is low. He was passing blood last night, and his abdomen is badly bruised. Bandit was surviving outside by eating grass, pine straw, beetles, and even plastic. He is currently at NC State Vet School in Raleigh, NC. The ER Vet’s major concern is whether Bandit has a urethral tear, despite the fact he is urinating. If he does the prognosis is very poor. The diagnostics for a urethral tear is a positive-contrast urethrography/cystography which the ER Doctor didn't think they could do because they didn't think they could place a urinary catheter in him due to his size. If he has free fluid in his abdomen they can sample that to see if it is urine. Otherwise we may not be able to diagnose it. So, we opted for a initial exam and FAST scan of abdomen to start. The estimate for urethral tear surgery is $15,000 so this is not doable. If we pass that hurdle, then the next issue is that the NCSU Vet thinks Bandit’s blood loss is coming from his badly broken femur. They advise repairing the fracture or amputating ASAP. The initial estimate for stabilization including blood transfusion, IV fluids, etc. is $5,000-$7,000. This does not include repair or amputation of his left leg or his broken tail. We are asking for donations to save this little kitten’s life. He was obviously dumped and doing his best to survive. He deserves a chance at a life that he deserves. If we can save him, we will find him a good forever home. It’s what we do. Will you please help us help little Bandit? Thank you❤️
