Help to fix Tris' parents place (before it falls down)

You might know that my (Tristan's) parents retired to France several years ago. The intention was to get the place spruced up and have some business elements. However, time has passed, especially with COVID impacting as well as some periods of illness. Added to that a storm damaged the roof, and took some of the floor boards due to water ingress, which the insurance company would not pay out for.

Me and Tanya went over at Easter and it became clear that there’s a lot of work needed – just to get the main building habitable.

The building is now watertight, with the roof fixed and some insulation is up there, however it needs boarding to be effective. There’s a missing floor in the main part of the building which we need to create – knocking down rotten partitions and then boarding it all. Things like paths need to be made from wood chip as its really slippery and steps re-concreted in.

We’re prepared to put in the graft and labour and have put a week aside start June to start with, to go over. We’re no experts but want to make it a proper set of rooms – which have floors, walls covered to keep the heat in and then the basics of doors (we haven’t made a door before – but here’s to trying)

The main issue is cash. I’ve been made redundant this year, moved to Brum seeking work and we’ve just had the cat need urgent scans and treatment. Simply put, we’re struggling to cover this work, in the timeframe we have.

Our major costs are £500 for the flooring, £65 on creating the paths outside, and £230 on covering for the walls of the attic (prob plastic as we can’t cover it all being boarded) Obvs we need to get there and it being in the arse end of nowhere, the ferry is expensive but we have it covered. We’ll get our hands on the rest of stuff needed though with new Brexit legislation, we cannot take any materials with us – just tools and there are many many forms for this…

So why are we here………..we’re asking if anyone has anything they can put into this endeavor – we would be eternally grateful.

To try and inject a bit of fun….£10 will get you your name on a floor board (or noggin thing – bracing the floor) which we’ll photo as we put it in, and send you as a memento (possibly of us nailing ourselves to things or falling from height but here’s hoping its just us being knackered!)
