Help to fund Michael Polonski Funeral

Tragedy struck the Polonski family of Glenview, IL about a year and a half ago, when Michael, the head of the family, was diagnosed with colon cancer. This morning, Michael Polonski died peacefully at 9:45am.

My name is Jane Reece, I am a parishioner of the Holy Virgin Protection Cathedral in Des Plaines, and I am organizing this fundraiser to help Antonina Polonski, Michael's wife, who is also a parishioner of the Cathedral, make ends meet as she mourns the loss of her husband.

Antonina is left with two smart and loving sons, Anton (16) and Zhenya (11). The boys are both excellent students. Anton does fencing in his free time and also works a small side job as a fencing tutor.

Not too long before Michael received his diagnosis the family moved into a town home in Glenview, IL and Michael accepted a new and exciting position. In the meantime, Antonina entered the workforce as a nurse after being a stay-at-home mom.

Michael's diagnosis came as a shock to the whole family but Antonina prayed and eventually, Michael asked to be baptized. His health was steady but on June 29th an ambulance came to get him as he was very frail.

Michael’s wish was to partake in the mystery of Communion before his passing. As he was unable to speak or read, he asked his wife to read the Communion prayers for him. Antonina read. In the ambulance, his heart stopped multiple times, but he made it to the hospital alive and on June 30th, two days before his passing, he was able to receive Holy Communion in the hospital from his spiritual father.

At this time, Antonina and the boys are in emotional shock, and soon they will be left with anguish, grief, and sorrow. Having a financial cushion will take a huge burden off Antonina's shoulders at a time when she is left as the only breadwinner to support a new mortgage and two young men in pre-college age.
