Help Bring My Mum Home for Life-Saving Care

Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Strangers,

My name is Emma. We urgently need your help. My mum, Patricia, is fighting for her life on a critical care unit in the USA after catching covid and flu whilst on holiday there.

My mum is 76 years old, and a pensioner - she saved for two years to go on this holiday, and it was meant to be her last trip abroad with my brothers and my son. In the past, she has always taken travel insurance (and never had to use it) but when she looked into insurance for this trip, the quotes were far too out of reach for her means (£3,000+). Without medical insurance, the mounting hospital bills and critical care expenses have placed us in an impossible situation.

We believe her only chance for a stable recovery is to get her back to Wigan, England, where she can be surrounded by her loved ones and access continued medical care. However, the cost of air ambulance transport, alongside her ongoing treatment, is far beyond what we can manage on our own.

Mum is the heart of our family, she is the one who holds us together. She also has three sons and two grandsons who love her dearly, and we are hoping to give her the fighting chance she needs to recover.

What Your Support Will Achieve:

• Specialised Air Ambulance: To safely transport her home under medical supervision – we are still awaiting quotes but have been informed this can cost in the region of £50,000.

• Relief from Mounting Medical Bills: Any additional funding will contribute to alleviating the financial burden caused by her recent 5-day ICU stay, and ongoing treatment on a critical care unit - the total cost is still uncertain, but it’s building every day she’s an inpatient.

UPDATE:

Thanks again for everyones support so far. Mum is still really unwell, she is bedbound and dependant on continous oxygen.

We have spoken to an air ambulance provider and they've given us estimates to get my mum home:

Dedicated air ambulance- £130,000

Bed on a commercial flight - £25-35,000

Oxygen and assistance on a commercial flight (no bed) - £7,000

The last option would be most ideal but at this stage, we are not sure if mum can do that. I will update again when we have spoken to additional providers. Thanks again for all your support.

Thank you so so much for your kindness and generosity. Unfortunately my mum has now developed Pneumonia as well as still battling covid and influenza. She is still a very poorly lady in critical care in the US. I can’t thank you enough for your kindness and generosity. I will continue to update when I get more news. Thank you all
