Hi, this fundraiser is for a very special pup called Mabel , I am her dog groomer Leanne and I have groomed Mabel since she was a tiny pup. She is the most loving little pup who should have her whole life ahead of her but unfortunately she is the worst position right now and has to fight for her life with cancer I want to do this to help her mum and dad cover her vets bills which as you can imagine are through the roof no one should have to go through this and let’s be honest not alot of people have a spare 10-20k sitting in their bank. This is Mabel’s story so far written out by her mum. Please please help me help them and Mabel she really does deserve all our help.So 19th May, i noticed her third eyelid was slightly swollen but nothing alarming, wasn’t bothering her or anything. I contacted the vets and took her to have it checked. Advised it was conjunctivitis and begun treating that. It continued to worsen so i took her back, when they changed treatment but advised they would want to sedate her. At this point i was questioning cherry eye but was told no and they suspected something was in it. So they advised to take her back three days later to be sedated so they could take a closer look. By this point, her third eyelid was swollen half way across her eye and pushing her eyeball to the side rather than growing over it. Took her back on the day of sedation to be advised no sedation needed as it was cherry eye but that they do not operate on cherry eye so would need to be referred to another vet. The next day, we visited another vet off our own backs as we did not want to wait with it worsening. This vet advised that it is an abscess and cherry eye, and no operation on the cherry eye until the abscess has gone down. We then left with antibiotics, eye drops and pain relief. Advised to return 5 days later, however that weekend, i got a woodchip from her eye so wanted to have it checked. When checked, the vet advised the abscess felt softer and to return in two days for a review. Two days later on return, the vet had spoken with a specialist who advised it as being complicated so will need a specialist. By this point it had pushed her entire eye over and no longer able to see out of it. When asked about a tumour, i was told it won’t be due to her age. The vet wanted Mabel seen that day as urgent and referred to the Royal Veterinary College. Mabel was admitted that day to have a CT scan and ultrasound, they too thought it was an abscess as well as a foreign body being in it. Mabel had the scans whereby they couldn’t find anything in it but took away samples of tissue for testing just in case although advised there was a very tiny chance of cancer, they didn’t believe it to be again, due to her age. Mabel was to continue antibiotics, eye drops and pain relief and advised the swelling will take a long time to return to normal. They would await the results of the samples and make a plan from there. A few days passed and i felt her eye had continued to worsen so i called RVC to query the worsening when i was advised that Mabel did have cancer of the eye and it being a malignant sarcoma which has chance of spreading. I was told it was a very aggressive form with potential of it being in her nasal cavity. To treat this type of cancer, Mabel would require her eye to be removed followed by chemotherapy or radiation. Advised that if her eye is to be removed, she has to have the chemo or radiation to kill off any remaining cells as the level of aggression gives high chance of it returning. However, prior to that, Mabel will need to undergo another scan of her body to check whether it has spread. Our insurance covers up to £7500, which from the investigations already is already dipped into by £2200. The scan is another £2500-£3000, operation if not too complicated is £4000 and chemo starts at £10,000. After the examination today, been advised to go ahead with the scan to provide more answers and to work out a care plan for Mabel x
