Help to save poor Poppy’s leg and eye following attack
Donation protected
I am setting up a go fund me account to help raise money towards my friends family pet Poppy and her medical treatment.
You may of seen on social media and on Wigan Today the post about Poppy the Yorkshire terrier who was viciously attacked by a dog whilst out on a daily walk with her owner. The dog came out of nowhere and upon impact of attacking Poppy the dog crushed her leg and caused multiple lacerations as well as a burst blood vessel and deep wound to her eye. Poppys owner Nathan really struggled but managed to sprise the jaws of the attacking dog off Poppy as it locked its jaws around her. If it wasn’t for Nathan Poppy wouldn’t be here today. The dog also attacked Pippin, Poppy’s brother, but Pippin only sustained a minor puncture wound.
whilst the post was shared on social media it came to light that this same dog had attacked other dogs on multiple occasions and the careless owner is know to the police. The police have not done anything presently and have informed Poppy’s owners that they very rarely get involved in dog on dog incidents which means the likelihood of being able to claim any of the vet fees back is very low. The owner of the vicious dog has allowed this dog to keep attacking innocent dog walkers of the community and people are too scared to walk past her house and poppy’s owners were not aware of this. The vicious dog owner has also been non cooperative to Poppy's owners who have posted the vet fees to her house because she won’t answer the door to them or the police. It’s unfair that innocent dog walkers are faced with £1000s of pounds worth of debt just for walking their beloved dogs on a daily walk whilst on their lead around the local community.
although poppy is insured the initial Emergancy vet visit used up most of the policy entitlement. The money went towards X-rays, medication, stitches, anaesthetic, hospitalisation and a leg cast. Upon X-ray of poppy's condition the vets confirmed the leg would not heel on its own without specialised orthopaedic treatment. Leg amputation was an option but the price was almost the same so this made sense to try and save the leg.
Monday came and poppy had her successful operation of tiny plates and pins to hold together the shattered leg bone but this meant my friend would now be billed £3500. Poppy is still not recovered and a further X-ray will determine if the leg is heeled 6 weeks post op. We will therefore know more in 2-3 weeks time. Whilst discharged poppy had needed multiple medications and extensive post op care. She has been confined to a dog crate for most of this time and has been attended to around the clock meaning the owners lost a couple of days pay each in order to care for poppy.
now the eye- whilst at the Emergancy vets they established poppy had sustained a deep wound to the eye and a burst blood vessel, poppy has been given multiple eye drops and treatment every two hours to save her eye. The vets completed further surgery (debridement - meaning the top layers of the eye where manipulated and a course of blood and plasma eye drops given to help heel the eye) this treatment has not been successful and the next action to take is a specialist consultation which will determine if their is something in the eye, pressure check, eye examination and then either a further operation to save or remove the eye, so far treatment of the eye has cost £700 with the likely hood of being a further £2000 after surgery or removal, more funds which they don’t have and have exhausted all avenues to cover the cost of.
Poppy’s owners love their Yorkshire terrier dearly and this whole ordeal has been devastating on the family and their two little daughters. Although the owners have not set up the go fund me I know how much financial distress this whole ordeal has impacted them and how much stress they have been under. Poppy is a much loved family member and has been apart of their lives since she was a tiny pup. Poppy is a sweet little girl that is the most quiet, loving, little timid soul and will most likely need some rehabilitation in regards to going out on her daily walks, building her confidence but also recovery of the leg and eye.
I appreciate times are difficult for all at the moment and any donation would be greatly appreciated and would help towards the incurred debt, further surgery to save Poppy’s eye, medication and rehabilitation as well as follow up visits and post op care
if you are unable to donate then please be so kind as to share the post on social media.
all updates will be given to donors regarding Poppy’s treatment and recovery.
Should we reach more than the intended target then any funds will be donated to the dogs trust charity.
Thank you for your time in reading about Poppy’s plea and your consideration for Poppy and her Family.
