Support Julie's total knee and leg recovery!

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Tomma von Haeften.

We started this fundraiser two months ago to help our friend Julie Bishop stay afloat while she recovers from a major knee injury involving a lateral tibia break, ripped cartilage, and crushed tibial plateau. Thank you for reaching the initial goal - your generosity has been heart warming and beautiful to witness..  As the process of recovery has incurred more unexpected costs, we are asking for further support.

A large dog crashed into her at full speed at the dog park before she could get out of its way - tossing her several feet and breaking her knee. By the time the police and an ambulance came, the dog's owners had already disappeared.

Julie is a hardworking single mom with a college age son and a teenage daughter who are dependent on her.

She went through a successful surgery- received a bone graft to rebuild a damaged tibia, pins and plates put in her leg bone to stabilize her leg while it heals. It was not guaranteed to work and several complications were avoided. Now it just takes time and patience to heal.

Her Dr. advised it is a solid four months of rest and then several months of rehabilitation before having full use of her left leg again. And that is his most optimistic prognosis. It is on schedule that she will begin to walk again at the end of February/ beginning of March.

This has been a huge crisis for her and her family and they are deeply grateful for the support they have received.  She isn't able to work full time to support herself - She will not be able to do any of her bodywork or in person care for the sick, infirm and those in hospice until she is fully healed. Currently she has begun part time modest clerical work in bed at home.

But like so many these days, Julie no longer has a nest egg to draw on. She needs immediate financial help from our compassionate community members to help her stay afloat, pay the rent, care providers, therapies as well as to make sure her daughter has what she needs for school and her son for his college needs.

Whatever you can share will be most gratefully received. Julie is a person who by nature takes care of other people. She started a foundation for empowering domestic abuse survivors called WalnutWoods.org, donating thousands of hours a year. It is much easier for her to raise funds for others than herself.

She cares, selflessly, tirelessly, for others in need and many of us have benefited from her generosity and compassion.

Now it's her turn to be helped. Funds will also go toward extensive therapy sessions, some is  therapy not covered by her basic insurance, in-home care, dog walkers, adjustments to her apt to accommodate her new mobility restrictions, prepared food when she is unable to cook for herself.

You can  and will make a difference in her life as well as her children’s while she heals.

Thank you!
