Anyone who knows Nicole has most likely met Ollie. If you haven’t met him personally, you might feel like you have through Nicole’s description of Ollie’s huge personality and through the photos she frequently shares during conversation and on social media. Ollie is Nicole’s best friend and has been her companion for the last 8 years. He is a special part of our family - extremely loving, affectionate, incredibly smart, loyal and unique. He loves to romp through the forest, trot along the beach, and brings more joy than we can imagine. Everyone who knows him falls in love with him.
Nicole had a trip planned from San Diego to New York this past week. When she left for the airport, Ollie was in great spirits. She gave him a hug goodbye, knowing he would be in good hands with her boyfriend Rishi and told them she would see the two of them when she got back in 10 days.
Unfortunately, a few days into Nicole’s trip, Rishi started noticing that Ollie began acting differently. He started displaying abnormal symptoms which started out minor and progressively got worse. Looking for answers, Rishi took Ollie to the vet. The vet ran tests on his bloodwork and told both of them he would give them a call within 24 hours.
Knowing how cautious Nicole and Rishi are about taking Ollie to the vet for check-ups, we all assumed he was experiencing some sort of bug and that peace of mind would be received once the vet called. A long 24 hours passed, yet Ollie’s health continued to deteriorate. The next day, the vet relayed the news that Ollie’s kidney levels were extremely high, diagnosed him with degenerative kidney disease and urged Rishi to take him to the emergency animal hospital immediately. Nicole got on the next flight out of New York to be with Ollie in California during this stressful and scary time.
Ollie has been at the animal hospital undergoing intensive care for the past three days. The veterinarians are running countless tests to uncover other health issues that may have developed since his last visit to point to the reason why such a detrimental disease occurred so suddenly. Right now, the most likely candidate is an autoimmune disease that has rapidly onset and is attacking his body. Currently, the vets are closely monitoring his vitals, providing him with pain management, comfort, and countless treatments & medications in an attempt to reverse the damage that has taken place. At this point, it is a waiting game to see how Ollie’s body responds to the medications and treatment. With some time in the hospital, the vets are still hopeful Ollie may recover.
We are trying to remain as hopeful as possible as we wait for answers. Sadly, the time Ollie will be hospitalized is unknown and he may need to undergo surgery. The hospital bills for the treatment and care involved are adding up by the day. In hopes of doing everything possible to help Ollie conquer through, we are looking for your support to help us help him.
If you are at all able, please consider sharing this link and/or donating to support this campaign. We are extremely grateful for your support and will keep you posted on Ollie’s progress.
