Support for Uncle Dougie

We unexpectedly lost an absolute GOAT this week. My brother-in-law, Doug redefined family. He redefined fatherhood and he redefined what it means to be an Uncle and a friend. His joyous spirit brought fun and light everywhere he went and there is a huge gaping hole in our hearts that only he could fill.
It is so fitting that Doug was born on Christmas day and into a big, incredible family.
As 1 of the 3 spouses that married into the Murray side of the family, my sister-in-law and I would joke that he was clearly the favorite and we didn’t even care because he was our favorite too. It was impossible to not be happy when Doug was around making us laugh, giving the best hugs, single-handedly taking ALL the cousin kids fishing at the crack of dawn, and making us scream when he jumped out from somewhere to scare you.
Shannon and the girls, Kaya (17) and Iris (13), lost an incredible husband and father and we would love to help ease the financial burden of this on them as well as to create a fund for the girls' future education and other expenses.
As John Steinbeck said, “It’s so much darker when a light goes out than it would have been if it had never shone.”
We will miss you terribly Uncle Dougie.
Obituary;
Doug (Douglas) Edward Langworthy, 46, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 10, 2023, in Des Moines, Iowa. He will be dearly missed for his love of life and how he made others laugh.
Doug was a wonderful husband, adored his daughters and was incredibly proud of them. He truly loved life. Doug enjoyed fishing, hunting, painting, art, music, gardening, cheering on the Vikings and being with family and friends. He was always telling jokes, laughing and sharing movie quotes even if it was just funny to himself, like when he made up phrases like “haps in the craps.”
Doug was born December 25, 1976, in Perry, Iowa, to Edward and Carla (Vail) Langworthy. He graduated from Johnston High School in 1996. He married Shannon Murray on September 10, 2010. Doug lived in Urbandale with his wife and daughters, Kaya and Iris. He worked as a painter for 30 years. He always said how blessed he was to work with both his dad and brother Chad.
Doug is survived by his wife, Shannon, two daughters Kaya and Iris; his parents, Ed and Carla of Grimes; his sisters and their partners, Tanya Mart and Dave Cosgriff of Johnston; Shannon and Bob Sellner of Grimes; Mary Langworthy-Berber and Marco Berber of Grimes; Candice Langworthy and Keith Ratliff of Grimes; and his brother Chad Langworthy and Andrea Viera of West Des Moines. He will be missed greatly by many friends and family including his nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and in-laws who all loved him dearly.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at Iles Dunn’s Chapel. Memorial Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 16 at the same location. Feel free to wear bright colors and come as you are – just as Doug would like you to be. The service will be livestreamed at the bottom of Doug’s obituary on IlesCares.com where online condolences are also welcome. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in lieu of flowers.
