Help Tom Lewis Fight ALS

Donation protected

Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Strangers,

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that our beloved father, Tom Lewis, has been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). ALS is a progressive, incurable disease that affects the nervous system, gradually robbing individuals of their ability to move, speak, eat, and eventually breathe.

For Tom, the disease has progressed rapidly. He has went from riding his motorcycle across the country to see family in October - to being completely immobilized and bed ridden, with only minimal use of his right hand remaining.

This rapid progression means Tom can no longer work and as a result, his financial position will quickly become untenable- on top of everything else.

Despite this devastating diagnosis, we remain committed to helping Tom live his best possible life in the face of this challenge.

Tom is the kind of man who would drop everything to help someone in need. Whether it was helping friends move, fixing their cars or motorcycles, or simply being there as a rock-solid source of moral support, Tom has always put others first. He’s a proud and loving grandfather, a motorcycle enthusiast, and, above all, a family man.

Growing up in a family of nine in Paris, Ontario, Tom learned the value of hard work and resilience. He recently had rediscovered his joy, happiness and physical fitness - something he had spent years working for.

Now, ALS has erased all of that hard work in the blink of an eye. But if you know Tom, you know he won’t back down from a fight.

So now, it’s our turn to give back to Tom.

What Your Donation Will Support:

ALS is not only physically and emotionally devastating—it is also incredibly expensive. The cost of care, equipment, and support for ALS patients can reach tens of thousands of dollars annually . We’re asking for your help to ensure Tom can face this challenge with dignity and comfort.

Here’s where your generosity can make a difference:

1. Income Support

ALS has made it impossible for Tom to continue working - and without full time support, it has forced his partner to drop to part time hours- putting a strain on their ability to cover everyday expenses like rent and groceries. Your donation will help ensure that he doesn’t have to worry about these essentials while focusing on his health and family.

2. Transportation Assistance

Getting to and from critical medical appointments and treatments requires specialized transportation. This includes accessible vehicles and specialized patient transfers. With each trip costing anywhere from $200-400 dollars this quickly becomes a significant financial burden, and roadblock to care, for families living with ALS.

3. Equipment and Home Modifications

ALS Canada estimates that the cost of equipment rentals and modifications can exceed $50,000 annually. This includes:

  • Wheelchairs and mobility aids to maintain independence.
  • Home modifications to accommodate his needs, such as ramps and accessible bathroom equipment.
  • Communication devices to help Tom express himself as ALS progresses.

4. Medical Treatments and Therapies

While there is no cure for ALS, treatments and therapies can improve quality of life and slow progression. These include:

  • Medications to manage symptoms.
  • Physiotherapy and occupational therapy.
  • Experimental treatments that offer hope for slowing the disease’s progression.

5. Emotional and Family Support

Living with ALS is not just hard on the patient—it impacts the entire family. Donations will also help cover counseling and respite care to support Tom and his loved ones as they navigate this journey.

The Impact of Your Support

ALS is a battle that no one can fight alone. By donating, sharing this campaign, or simply sending words of encouragement, you’re helping us ease Tom’s burdens and give him precious time to focus on what matters most: his family and loved ones.

Your support will allow us to cover the extraordinary costs of ALS care and make each day as meaningful as possible for Tom.

A Message from Tom’s Family

Tom has always been our rock—a strong and resilient man with a heart of gold, full of love and loyalty for his family and friends. Now, as we rally around him, we’re asking for your support to show Tom that he is not alone in this fight.

Please join us in making a difference.

Together, we can ensure that Tom continues to ride through life’s challenges with strength, dignity, and the love of everyone who has been touched by his kindness.

Thank you for standing with us.

With gratitude,

The Lewis Family
