Help Tomás parents with renovation to their home
Donation protected
Hi there.
My name is Cliona and myself and Fiona Tomás' aunt are setting up this fundraiser for Tomás...
Tomás is 11 years old and was born a twin at just 26 weeks to parents Shane and Annmarie. Unfortunately Tomás' little brother Seán only survived 30 days and Tomás was left with a condition called Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy..
Tomás is such a bright happy chatty boy but has no independent movement. He cannot feed himself, he cannot hold a fork or spoon or do the simplest thing like scratch his nose. As Tomás will require life long supports and very costly equipment, his parents set up a fundraising group called "Tomorrow for Tomás"
Last year the funds raised went towards his aided wheelchair with that costing €20,000.
His parents have to do renovations onto there home which requires disability access survey of the house and installation of a accessible washroom and toilet, accessible furniture for meal times installation of specially adapted switch devices, adapting doors, and entrances for wheelchair the estimated cost of this is over €200,000.
The aim of the build is to create and independent quarters for Tomás living while at the same time integrating it in such a way that it revolves around the family home.
Costings for this project are in excess of €200k. This does not include any retrofitting of the existing building (widening door arches , redesigning an accessible kitchen and living area, etc.
Building materials for the new extension alone are estimated to be €170000.00.( costings were completed prior to Covid and all materials have increased in price by 20 to 60% )
Tomás will also require disability aids and equipment for the extension.
A Gantry Crane, (this assists with the lifting of Tomás from bed to wet room to bath to wheelchair).
A full wet room which will allow Tomás to be showered and toileted.
A change table which allows for Tomás changing of incontinence pads and dressing him.
A paediatric adjustable bed, as Tomás cannot move independently this type of bed will assist with Tomás repositioning while in bed.
A Hydrotherapy Bath. Due to Tomás’ constant dystonic muscle spasms the hydrotherapy bath assists with the relaxing of the muscle tone.
These are coming in at a cost of €35000.00 to €45000.00

As well as practical needs Tomás requires on going multi-disciplinary and medical care which is also very costly on his parents, so we are setting this up to try our very best with yer help in supporting them make this possible for Tomás, he has just had major surgery in Dublin and now is a better time than any to try get this extension done.
Thank you all very much.
